Can't pay full fees this year

So I was previously in college before about 3 years ago but I withdrew from my course after 6-7 months. I decided to go back to college and enrolled in NUIG for this year.

I am not eligible for free fees in first year because I have previously had them paid for me, so I went into the course knowing I'd have to pay the 6,000.

I had saved up about 2,000 over the summer working and I paid that at the start of the year. I expected to be working part time and was in the process of applying for a loan from the credit union to pay the remainder. Have about 600-700 further savings there from part time work over the semester.

I lost my job after Christmas because it wasn't busy enough and I wasn't flexible with my hours anymore. So I don't qualify for a loan as I have no fixed income. I have moved home in the mean time to cut expenses. Getting my mam to take out a loan isn't an option as she already has enough on her plate.

I had kind of put it on the backburner over the last few weeks because I was hopeful of finding a new job but so far I have only been offered full time positions or they need flexible hours.

I don't really know how to proceed, they are going to add another €200 late fee over the weekend and the stress is taking it's toll.

For second year I qualify for free fees and the grant again, I'm wondering would it be possible to pay off another 1000 this year and possibly the rest next year as I can work full time over the summer.

I'm unsure who to contact in the college, I've been told the Student Union or the fees office. I should probably just go in and ask but it's a bit embarrassing or overwhelming.

If someone could just point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it,

    Regards

First of all don't be embarrassed. Go into SU and talk to Welfare officer. Go to fee's office and talk about your issues

The financial aid fund closes today. Check your email account as an email with all info is there. Contact them ASAP and they can help

First off you have no need to be embarrassed. I had to pay 7500 this year for fees so I know well how you feel.

You would be surprised how many is in the same situation but the college are great. The fees office won't so much but you should go see someone from the financial aid or students union. The chaplains are also a great help so it might not be any harm to talk to them. Best of luck but don't give up the help is there you just need to ask

I hope I'm not too late to offer help... Before Christmas, Fees emailed me to say I had to pay the fees, as SUSI still hadn't decided. Long story short, it's been sorted. Talk to fees, the ladies I was talking to were lovely and understanding and helped out. If you don't feel comfortable you could always talk to one of the Chaplains, Fr Ben or Fr Barry, first. They'll be able to point you in the right direction, or get you in contact with the right people. c:
