    Hello,

I am a french student and I will be living in Ireland for 4 more months, and I would love to get a good internet connection, sadly, all the providers I checked require a 12 months contract or more. The only one I found that allow me to get internet without any contract (magnet.ie) can't provide a broadband where I live.
Is there a possible way for me to get a broadband for 4 months ?
I am looking forward your answers.

Get broadband with a promotion and a contract, break contract, pay cancellation fee?

Example, UPC 120mb, €20 per month for first 4 months, €200 cancellation fee. Total cost for 4 months €280.

That's if you need actual proper broadband. You might look at pre-pay mobile broadband if you don't need much usage.

And Magnet charge a 50 euro connection fee and 50 euro disconnection fee :)

Although I wouldn't touch UPC with a dirty stick as I've never known them to handle billing situations like that properly (in 2 countries)

From a Technical point of view though they are very good.

I thought about that, but isn't it risky ? I mean, is that a current thing ? And if so, do you know with which broadband provider I will pay less cancellation fee ?

If you have an iPhone, get in touch with your provider, you may be able to get a wifi hotspot in your phone that will allow you to connect other devices to it. I enjoy it work work and leisure purposes, I also find that it's usually fast enough for all my browsing needs, just not gaming :)

The problem is that I will mostly use this internet connection for gaming or Netflix :/

Most companies have a variable cancellation fee, depending on how many months are left on your (often 18 month) contract. I know with eircom it used to be effectively the number of months X the monthly price. I know upc have a fixed cancellation fee regardless of months left - but I don't think many other companies do that.

    Rikobil,

Meteor have a special offer for students and teachers, which is managed through HEANET, so you must give your student number. 25GB for €9.99 per month or 50GB for €19.99. 30 day contract and 4G. Not quite as good as fixed line fibre but not bad if you want to avoid contract.

The latency on 3G is terrible for Online Gaming unfortunately.

Not a bad deal though !

Agreed - but it I am recommending this deal because it is Meteor 4G. Good 4G is a vast improvement on 3G for latency and reliability.
