Well got the car tested today, failed as the tester couldn't open the boot.
The mazda has a little button you press to release it, was trying to explain this but tester he just dropped the keys and paper and stormed off shutting the slide window. Maybe having a bad day- but not really my problem.

Just bought the car from a reputable garage and there is no issue with the boot.
i can open and close it with my eyes closed.

What to do now? was thinking about taking car back in morning and asking them whats the issue with it

My car boot wouldn't open for my test two years ago. The test was done but I got a fail on that. I just had to have it fixed and bring it back so they could view it. I didn't have to pay any extra and got my cert.
    Have things changed since?

You should have asked to speak to a supervisor and brought him out and showed them that there isn't any problems with the boot opening and closing. Did it fail on anything else?

Gobsh!te could have asked you at the counter before issuing the fail cert. An old civic I had before had an alarm sticker covering the factory glass thickness stamp on the window, we both went outside and I peeled it off to reveal it and that was that.

Failed me on not having reflectors on my bumpers, told me to have it sorted and come back for visual, did nothing with car brought it back to a different nct testing facility and explained the rear lights have reflectors and passed no bother

There is a few guys working in these centers and they need to be taught some basic manners. Like it or not they are working with paying customers and thus should treat them as such. There should be a mystery shopper type person that puts cars through and reviews interactions with staff etc.

He doesn't have to be able to open it. Once you can it should have passed.

I had this happen to me a couple of years back.

Fail with no retest fee as it's a visual re-inspection. He insisted he couldn't open the boot, I insisted on opening the boot for him and let him try then and he succeeded, no "knack" to it or anything.

I then insisted on him providing me with a pass cert and he obliged.
