Hi ladies! I am 33 and since I came off the pill 2 years ago (I was on it for 10 years)... my period pain is unbelievable. Always on the first day of my period, I am in agony as I am typing this at my desk, and I am taking paracetamol but its not making any difference. Any tips you want to share ladies??? I know the usual tip of hot water bottle etc but I think I need something a bit stronger :)

Its kind of more on the side of medical advice if you're looking for something stronger than paracetamol but there are otc medicines specifically for period pain if you ask the pharmacist. They can go through it all with you.

Thanks and I know the pharmacist will give me something with codeine, was hoping someone would have a miraculous cure *wishful thinking :)

Would taking a supplement every day help in some way with the pain? Does anyone take a vitamin maybe? e.g. I take evening primrose every day to give myself relief from the tenderness of our private bits. Was wondering is there something out there?????

Talk to your Gp about this. My cycles changed dramatically several times, after having babies, and after changing pill. I spoke to my GP, then went on a different pill for 3 months, came off it again, and the cycles had changed back to non-painful.

Just back from the chemist and went for Nurofen express. Its not as bad today thankfully. Its normally for the first day and a half that I suffer! God us women have it hard :( I will see how I go with this, and next month I might try Solpadeine

Addle I will definitely be looking into the Seven Seas perfect harmony! Thanks for the tip. I take evening primrose oil which helps MASSIVELY with the tenderness of our private bits :) But does nothing for the pain!

Mind the codeine as well... Codeine addiction is unpleasant.

I know from previous insane constant toothache it's very easy to get attached to / reliant on tablets. Personally have only ever found Paracetamol the only pain-killer to be any good for me. Lil-lets Relaxing Rub used to be my God-send. Then they dis-continued it. And then I started getting Emerita Menstrual Comfort Cream. It's not cheap, but worth it.

Thanks to this Thread and as a result of having a look around for a pic of my Emerita Cream, - I've stumbled upon Comforté Cream. Seems to be similar, not sure if it works out cheaper, must have a further look.

I get a lot of general pain at the moment and heat doesn't help, and I randomly luckily found a gem called masterplast Freeze Gel in my local "Pound-shop" which is a life-saver for me. And I'm not dismissing or taking away from or de-meaning the debilitating misery of crippling Period-pain here, - but using the Freeze-Gel kind-of got me thinking, - that anything at all to take one's mind off their pain helps! With the freeze-one, the smell of it and the brisk-ness of the cold of it (which ended up lovely and soothing and somehow warm lol across my back,) was a distraction of-sorts and took my mind off of the pain.

I got something the other day in the Two-Euro Shop in Headford Road Galway City called masterplast Knee and Elbow Balm. They have other similar items in there, I must see if they have something that might be good for Period cramps.

My Bro. used to get a lot of injuries and swore by Tiger-Balm. Not sure if it would have any easing qualities / ingredients helpful for us ladies.

Customers at my old job were mad about a product called Mrs. Cullen's Powders. Have no idea if it's a Rub / Cream / Gel / Spray / Tablets or what, but it was popular for helping with Periods anyway.

I don't get pain anymore but I used to get terrible period pain, and I found that it was worse if I had been eating salty food or drinking fizzy drinks in the days leading up to my period. Diet made a big difference for me at least.

Pain as severe as you describe is usually symptomatic of something else. Talk to the Well Woman clinic, your gp or gyn to get checked out and manage pain relief correctly. Ponstan is the only thing that works for me

    Agree very strongly.
You don't want to be any more bloated or swollen in that area than you have to be!

The Feminax you buy in a chemist here has codeine. The Feminax you buy in Asda (say, if you're in the North) has no codeine. It's ALL about the codeine!!

Codeine levels in those tablets are so small their effect is negligible. I am not being smart, but leave the medicines advice to the pharmacists. Codeine addiction is a major problem in Ireland, it is important that the OP receives impartial advice.

    Thanks.

Mine aren't as bad as yours but I find I've less pain if I keep my feet warm and toasty all day otherwise the coldness of my feet sends pain shooting upwards. I've literally been hopping with the pain at times if I haven't worn 2 pairs of woolly socks.

    Voice of reason.

It's nothing to be ashamed of.Anyone can become addicted. It could easily happen to me or you.

Also painkillers without it should provide SOME relief. I am not negating the OP's period pain. But absolutely listen to the pharmacist or doctor. And always take the instructions seriously.Ask people who are qualified to answer.

Whoa whoa whoa, medical advice everywhere!

Lads, it's against the rules both to ask for, and to give medical advice. For good reason too. Most of you are around long enough to be fully aware of this. The OP could be allergic/sensitive to anything that you are suggesting but without you knowing her medical history how could you possible advise? Posts deleted.

OP, you should not be in that much pain during your period and it could well be a sign that you need to visit your doctor. Talk to a pharmacist or GP rather than ask for help on the internet.
