Kia Sorento - Running Costs

I am planning to buy a Kia Sorento (06/07) in the next few months as I need a jeep to tow a horsebox. I am looking for input from those who already own one as to the running costs of the Sorento? I'm moving up from a small car so would be good to get an idea of servicing costs, tyres, fuel economy, etc.

I am aware of the cost of the tax, when I sat down and ran the numbers it would have cost me more to buy a newer model on the loan repayments, despite the lower tax.

    Any advice or suggestions welcome.

Kia Sorrento is a big lump. They are cheap to buy and considered reasonably reliable which is probably why you are considering one, but size = cost.

A smaller jeep than that would probably tow your horsebox just as well (most small SUV's will still tow in the region of 2000kg's or 2 Tonnes on a braked trailer) ... and be cheaper to run (close to a family sized car) and closer to a car in terms of driving experience too. For example : Nissan X-trail, etc.

Anecdotally, I hear a lot of people end up selling large SUV's because they are are just too expensive to run....and they don't have the heavy work to do to justify that cost.

The problem with the smaller jeeps though is that they cannot legally, nor are they capable of, towing more than one horse. With two horses weighing 600kg+ each, and a horsebox weighing over 500kg, my research told me I needed something with 3.5ton capacity.

However, if anyone has experience with alternative models for towing the above weight then I would welcome advice and opinions, as I'm all for keeping my costs down!

Also - to keep the thread on topic - I would still like people who currently own/have owned a Sorento to provide me with some info on running costs.
