The brandao and mccaul fights should definitely be higher up on the card

Great looking card in fairness, though the placing of the fights is very odd as you say @Beersmith

    Question is, will Diaz show???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,960 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I'd love to see Diaz win (which he has little to no hope of doing anyway) but i hate the way he cries about not gettong big fights and big money, he finally gets it and he doesn't show up to open training. Will be biggest mistake of his life if he doesn't show up fight night.

Shocked creepy lineker isn't on the main.

Diaz not show up to a fight? LOL

Nick is going to take anderson apart hes old coming off 2 a horrific injury 2 loses, time waits for no man not a chance is he getting destroyed here as plenty are predicting,

Brandao will maul jimmy hettes and Gastelum's run is about to come to an abrubt halt, all IMO of course.

Cracking card on paper, looking forward to this one.

Not really fussed about Diaz missing open gym. As long as he turns up on weight, focussed and motivated this weekend I'll be happy.

Not sure he can beat Silva - I'm not too fussed either way, I'm just hoping for a good fight.

Diaz is also coming off two losses.
And Diaz has had a much longer layoff than Anderson.

Diaz decided to skip his flight and miss the open workouts.

Not a leg breaks though and a knock out, nicks fitness or ring rust wont be an excuse if he loses the guy does triathlons for fun, missing the flight was on purpose I read there its typical diaz nothing to worry about the weight ins will be easy im sure hes not cutting anything at this weight,

Hes got some record in fairness to him GSP,BJ,SILVA all on his record some of the greats.

Hope we a see a dominant Anderson and quick KO of Diaz, huge Diaz fan but Anderson is a living legend, Legend is a word used too often in MMA but Anderson deserves it.

Seen some one call Conor a legend in other thread :pac: ( he may be one day but no where near it yet)

2 years is a long time, leg break or not. His fitness isn't in question, it's his ability. I don't think he's been training at capacity the last two years.
I doubt he is cutting weight for 185 either. He's far too small for 185.

He's fought some of the greats. But GSP destroyed him, and the BJ he beat wasn't near to the best BJ.
If Silva is back to 75% he'll destroy Diaz.

If anderson is anything near what he used to be, I think he will destroy Diaz. Perfect match for silva, someone who will walk forward and keep it standing. Silva has power to knock out light heavyweights, don't think he'll have a problem with a welterweight, regardless of Diaz's chin.

    Card is quality.

    Silva round 3 TKO

Good card, not that bothered about main event, happy to see Diaz KO him in 30 secs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭The Bored One

Big problem for Diaz in this fight is that he has no real way of controlling where the action takes place. His striking does it's damage when someone trades with him at close range where rather than hit with any individual powerful strike, he lands a high volume of accurate, lower power strikes. However he lacks the footwork to force Silva to stay at this range.
Then when you look at his grappling he's most dangerous when the other fighter is in his guard. But he lacks the offensive wrestling to bring the fight to the ground and Silva is unlikely to bring the fight there himself.
Since Silva has some of the best footwork in the business as well as some of the most devastating single shot knockout ability, this fight belongs to Silva.
Unless he clowns around too much.

Would love to see Kelvin do it.. big step up for him if he does

    rooting for diaz

except he is so predictable, rarely changes his game plan and silva will have studied the weaknesses.would love to see diaz get the w though.

Didn't realise this was such a great card!

Would love to see Kevin get the win against Woodley.

As for the Silva v Diaz fight I only see it going one way.
Silva with a KO/TKO in the 2nd with probably a counter punch.

You can't be serious can you?

I'm amazed how low down the McCall/Lineker fight is. It should at least be the main fight on the prelims. Bizarre placing of fights for this one.

So, if Diaz beats Silva, and Silva is on a 3-fight lose streak? Where will he go from there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,663 ✭✭✭JoeyJJ

Not sure what the problem is with my lack of caring of the main event, I really don't like Diaz and don't see it as a very good headliner, much more interested in Kelvin and McCall fights, bottom of the card is very strong.

I would imagine either Mousasi or the winner of Machida/Rockhold. His stock wouldn't drop that much.

Anderson is refusing to wear Reebok, says he is loyal to Nike.It will be interesting to see how this plays out.If I understand correctly Reebok actually don't sponsor the fighter but the sponsor UFC and UFC get fighters to wear the logo? as in there is no direct deal between fighters and Reebok

Gastelum is a mess pathetic shape hes a disgrace missing by that much,I hope woodley smashes him, woodley still odds against with betfair btw people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,960 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Linekar said UFC will still give him a shot at title with win over Creepy even with his weight issues (before missing tonight). He should be forced up a weight!

Gastelum 9 pounds over.....he might as well be fighting at MW. Absolute joke!

10lbs is a weight class size difference. Bad form from Gastelum - 2nd time missing weight and nearly missing once before

Kinda glad I got tenner on Woodley tonight before weigh ins.

I lumped on when the news broke, fight wont go ahead imo woodley wont take the fight unless he weights in tomorrow at a certain weight and he gets a bundle of money compensation.

Woodley/Gastelum goes ahead per Dave Sholler. Gastelum fined 30% of his purse which goes to Woodley. Same situation with Lineker/McCall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,959 ✭✭✭✭scudzilla

Gastelum will probably have to weigh no more than 185lbs 2hrs before the fight too, think that's what happened when Vitor fought Anthony Johnson, he had to make a certain weight on fight day or it was scrapped

I'd say he realised he wasn't going to make weight a couple of hours before weigh in and gave up, started re-hydrating

The Reebok deal doesn't come in until later this year. ATM, Silva us free to wear Nike I think.
