    Hey lads,

I'm looking to start cycling to and from college. Just wondering if you could give me some advice on what kind of bike and accessories to get?

    Thanks

    Single speed with mudguards, IMO.

If the commute is not too long there's no need for special clothing. A good set of lights ( USB rechargeable are ideal for commuting ) is essential. As is a good D lock, like the Kyrptonite evolution mini.

Thanks! Just one more question, are accidents are common? I'm a real sissy and a bit scared about that.

It happened to me twice in 3 years, 2 of them was car fault (turn without indicate) and one of them was a pedestrian crossing all of the sudden. I cycle weekdays 20km and weekends 40-50km so in my opinion they not very common. Just need to be careful and up you go.

If you cycle with a good bit of awareness and smarts, they're very rare. I cycled in Dublin for 1 year, Belfast for 1 year and Wexford for 3, and I've had zero accidents. Well worth learning a bit of roadcraft when you're starting off.

What kind of budget do you have for the bike and equipment?

Be aware of your surroundings and never wear earphones, Take your time and you'll be fine...
