Fueling issue when close to empty

Have a bit of a fueling issue with a 07 Kia Sportage.

The car is cutting out when low on diesel (10 litres or less in the tank). This is even before the fuel light comes, not that I would normally let it get that low. When I fill up, it takes approx 50 litres and the car has a 60 litre tank.

Don't know if it may help, but when I fill up, the guage only sits a FULL for a few minutes and then drops to close to the three quarters full mark.

Car starts and runs fine otherwise.

Is this just the sign that a new in tank fuel pump is needed or could it be an issue with the float and corresponding sensor? Thanks.
