Is the Irish version of Ebay used that much , ?

I have purchased several items recently on the .ie version of this site , paid for them promptly but never received the goods ,

Not a major issue as Paypall have reimbursed me on 5 purchases ,

In all cases I won the auctions but I can only assume that the seller thought they were going to get a higher price ,so they offered a variety of excuses not to go through with the transaction .

If they had put a high reserve on the items I can only assume they wouldnt attract any bids
Anyone else notice this practice , If I as the buyer didnt keep my part of the contract the seller would more than likely report me to ebay and leave bad feedback .

I use the UK site all the time and don't bother with the Irish site. The size of the market is too small.

But you can choose the locations of where you want your items located to not just be in Ireland? I usually set the item locations to be in Ireland and UK. I just use the .ie site for the ease of seeing the price in euro really

The market size is smaller and the price of value is not what it is compared to the uk let alone the likes of the american site much prefer using the uk one even doe the wait of an item is an extra day or two but in the grand scheme of things worth it.

    ^^ This! ^^

    But...

I search for products on .ie site and buy them on .uk site.

    Why?

    1. Handy "add to basket" and pay for all at the same time option.

    2. (the most important) UK site is just one of the very few (.ie is obviously not) to enforce seller to reimburse your shipping costs when you return faulty/not as described item.

I have had this happen too, it sucks. Basically someone sells something and they get a bad price and suddenly the dog ate it or its lost in the post.

However for everyone one I fail with another I will get... recently got call of duty advanced warfare for 14 euro and destiny for 11 :)

Thanks for that, I didn't know Ebay Uk had that shipping feature. Ebay Uk can be annoying thought as the currency converted rates it shows are off, the paypal checkout is always much higher.

If, like me, you buy stuff from UK sellers via Parcel Motel, there's no point using eBay's IE site as stuff with UK only delivery won't show up on it.

Using the eBay UK site is the only way to go unless you're buying from Irish sellers that list only on the Irish site.

But won't Irish sellers appear on the UK site in Pounds? It's hard to know what you are exactly paying then as the exchange price it shows in Euro is always lower when you go to actually pay.

Are you taking into account for paypal getting their charge in as well?

No. Take this listing for example http://www.ebay.ie/itm/UNIVERSAL-Nano-Micro-Mini-Sim-Card-Adaptor-Converter-to-Standard-Sim-for-Mobile-/131077651605?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e84d63c95

It says 99p and under it says approximately 1.31 euro. However if you buy it and proceed to the part where you pay it says 1.37 euro. I know its not a huge difference but it bugs me all the same :P

So if I was on the UK site bidding on an Irish item it would show the price in pounds and the approximate euro price, then I win and proceed to the checkout only to find I'm paying more than I bid.... I guess the difference is small though and I'm just being a pain in the arse.

It's not a waste of time, there are good Irish sellers on there, you just have to check anyone's feedback to be at least 99.3% or higher.

    Why such a specific number?

Instead of making a new thread, I luckily found this one.

I'm interested in selling a few things on ebay and I have them posted up.
If I'm creating listings on ebay.ie with international shipping as a option, are people from all over the world able to see my post?

I don't have any experience selling things on Ebay.

I always use eBay.ie and never had any problems. You really only seem to have one worldwide eBay account and it doesn't seem to matter where you log in. It mostly affects search results but you can tweak that too.

If in an actual auction (as opposed to 'buy it now') the seller refused to send the stuff I'd simply throw the (eBay dispute) book at them.

Yes, pretty much although on the more faraway eBay sites your listings may only appear at the bottom under international listing. I always list on eBay IE and I found a lot of UK buyers for my stuff. Its important to find reasonable carriers so that your shipping charges won't rule you out for UK buyers.

Ebay.ie is a waste of time, about 2 years it was brilliant as the search results gave irish sellers the top places. International and UK get priority results now, you have to filter out the search results to select Ireland only.

We used to do up 2k a week before on the .ie site, I pulled the plug early last year as turnover dropped by about 90%!

Ebay Ireland sellers don't get free listing weekends and if you pay a store sub you don't get half the benefits the UK sellers do.

Strikes me as a site to show Ebay have made there services available here while basing there low tax operation here.

Hi, i am an amazon and ebay specialist, depending on the product you might be better of setting up an amazon store (based in the ROI you are still able to open an Amazon UK store). The margins are greater, the listings can be more diverse and if you trademark a product you really could be onto a winner. In my experience Ebay.ie is poor and very rarely used.

So how do you go about selling on Amazon from Ireland then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 Amazin Sales

Its pretty simple, you can set up an amazon account via the Seller Central platform at Amazon UK, this then allows you not only to sell in the UK but across their European sites as well. Obviously it depends what you sell as there are some categories you need special permissions for. The fees are similar to Ebay unless you go for fulfillment, the signing up can be a little more complicated as they will probably need scanned copies of proof of address etc but generally after a few days you are ready to sell on Amazon.

I moved back to Ireland from the US two years ago. While in the US, I regularly sold on Amazon and eBay. eBay.ie seems to be little-used here - is it even worth listing anything on there?

I was listed as a seller on Amazon.com, presume I still have the account. Is it fairly easy to sell via Amazon UK - can you restrict sales to Ireland?

What other sites are commonly used here? In the US I used craigslist to sell bulky items, like furniture, before I moved. That worked well. I do see Facebook groups for selling but they seem to be too much jumble and not targeted enough at one kind of item.

There's adverts.ie, but don't be in any hurry to sell. Things move eventually, but at a slower pace. Craigslist and Gumtree are a dead loss - you'll see more life in the Sahara.
Donedeal.ie is quite lively though and is sometimes a source of interesting stuff.
BuyandSell committed hari-kiri recently, by dumping all their customers' ads and only flogging their own electrical tat.
