Why do insurance companies make it so hard to get insured on older cars, Rang 4 places this morning trying to get insured on a car and they're all saying the car is too old it's 00 ffs:mad: And one place quoted me for 3500 which is a robbery not like it's anything fast it's only a altezza!

    rant over.

Lack of immobilizer as standard on the Altezza will make them run a mile.

Problem here is it being an Altezza, not so much that it's old.

There's some companies are only brokers for the larger one's so adopt a computer says no attitude.

Have you tried 123, I've insured older cars with them before.

Tried them and they're giving the excuse * JAP IMPORT * which is a bit stupid considering every car is imported..

    heres another one for you.

If your a 30 - 40 year old female , working as a nurse or secretary etc and drive a 02 - 06 Toyota Corolla your premium would actually be very high.

Why ? because so many fit this criteria its actually become high risk.

the toyota corolla is a high risk car because there are so many of them on the road so theres more probability of having an accident , just like the 2005 - onward ford focus

which is why it was cheaper for me to insure a 2.0T Volvo S80 than a Focus 1.6TDCi.

but in your case OP its because its an Altezza.

Or can insure a little corsa or something for cheap and use it 3rd party extension :pac:, But i'd rather have it fully insured

this is very true. Insurance on my Mondeo ST200 was very cheap becuase (my broker told me) it was so rare that there was no experience of claims on it. My son has it now, at age 25 and his insurance is very reasonable, even though he has just had a claim on his policy!

If the car is not in your name nothing can be done to you :) Once it's NCT'd and taxed, Doesn't need to be insured :)

PArents / friends can be quite receptive of "gifts"

It's also seen as fraud and if caught can have serious consequences.

I wouldnt be so sure of that one with some companies.

Some require the whole package or its void.

The other car must have valid NCT and Tax and some companies require it to have valid insurance in someone elses name or some companies dont require that

    Welcome to the real world.

As unfortunate as it may sound many people have been in your boat.
If they cant get cheaper they have no choice but to pay it or, change their circumstances so that the quote is less, or they avoid the cost altogether.

I didnt own a car till I was 27, couldn't really afford to and didnt have the need really, managed to use public transport and hitch most places till I was 24 then was named driver on partners policy for a few years before getting my own.

It depends on the clauses on the insurance certificate,
It may say that it has to be insured by another party.
I know mine definately says that i cant be the main driver of the other car.
Ig you have a tip, the insurance will sniff this out extremely quickly and will walk away.
Also isnt it illegal to have a car without an insurance disc displayed.

Its not the age of the car the insurance companys have problems with,
They dont want to insure 'boy racers'. The car is probably highly modified as well??
Ask them for a quote for a 00 1.4 golf or corolla and see if they come back saying its too old. If a car has an nct its legal and safe to drive on the roads.
If you cant get a quote from 5 in a row , legally go back to the first one and they have to quote you but it will probably be something stupid
