I'm thinking of doing either the royal tour of Meath 100k, or the Wicklow 100.

At 106 kg, Hills are not my best friend on the road (hate them) so with that in mind which 100k would you guys recommend..

The Meath one is flatter, but go mad, do both! You'll love it at the end :D

The Meath one defo is flatter, but that Meath cycle stands out to me as the only event where I found the route utterly boring with a complete lack of nice scenery! Pick a better one and do that and the Wicklow!!!

Meath is better organised and starts off as a group on the road - much better buzz for a first timer than the Wicklow 100.

You should look at a few other events prior to that as warm-ups and introduction to sportifs (will this be your first one?)

Yeah, I'm getting in about 150k a week in the good weather. Rides of 40-50k are no bother so shouldn't be to difficult. I'm trying to get my brother to tag along. He hasn't been on a bike since his teens..

Where are you based? If you're doing 50k solo easily at the moment, then the tour of Meath is way too far away to be building up to 100k in a group by then - if you keep doing 150k and upwards a week you should be looking at the 160 in Meath!

If you can do 80k on your own, then 100k in a group will feel about the same - if i were you I'd be looking at maybe the headstrong sportive in April. 100k and 60k from Kildare - you'd be well able for the 100 by then (remember that there's a food stop half way on all these spins) and there's not much climbing on that route.

If you want a taste of the sportive atmosphere - there's one on February 1st with a 57k spin from Baldonnel that would help you see what happens on the day and get you some experience of riding in a group.

I did the Wicklow 100 a couple of years ago, not a great sportive really. Too expensive mainly. Route was alright, the hills weren't too bad (for me anyway) and the scenery was lovely.

Brilliant. Been looking for a short spin to get me back into the swing and baldonnell is basically on the doorstep. :)
