Joke of a system

    Hi everyone

I am currently a final year student and I have had to pay my whole way through college without any assistance. My parents are by no means well off. My Dad's wage is ok but he also has a mortgage and other expenses so there is not much left over after. My mother is unable to work due to health reasons.

I work part time during college evenings and weekends to pay for living expenses and still struggle. Since I started we have had to pay fees and accomodation every year without a penny of assitance.

I am not saying that I disagree with grants and I realise that there are people that genuinely need and rely on them, however most of my peers who get them have the life of riley. I have to listen to them planning summer holidays with their grants, buying cars with their grants and most of them come from wealthy and comfortable homes. A lot of them go out a lot which is something that I am unable to do as I struggle to afford it. I already had to take out a loan to pay my fees so I'm in debt before I've even left college.

How is it that these people can qualify for a grant? If your buying a car or other things like that with it you obviously don't need it. Is there any sort of a system that would work that would be fair and only provide assistance to people who deserve it?

I'm just interested on hearing other people's opinions on the matter.
