Recommend a hair dresser - maybe Male..

grr… my hair dresser has emigrated!
anyway he was really the best hair dresser I ever had - he really understands hair.
I have a kink in my hair naturally but I wear it straight so its difficult to cut.
Most hair dressers I find cut hair across - or even if they cut into the layers, it still looks to "cut" if you know what I mean…

So can anyone recommend a really good hair dresser/stylists? And without having to pay through the nose for it…

I have been to those places and price does not reflect quality - my hairdresser worked in the most inconspicuous place and he was amazing..

and at the risk of sounding sexist - maybe Male? No offense to anyone… thanks

I've been going to The Edge for years. I find one of the stylists in there great. Andy is his name. I've got really thick, unruly hair and am generally rubbish at managing it and found it hard to to find someone who cut it well. It always looked blocky or too fussy and was time consuming. He found me a style that I can manage well but looks really good natural too.

actually read some bad reviews about The Edge there on an old boards thread - they the comments were from 2013 - have you been going there recently?

Yep, go there about every 8 weeks on average. Have an appointment coming up soon. Surprised by those reviews. I suppose anyone can have a bad experience somewhere though. For instance I know a few people who rave about Picassos yet my most recent experience(about 2 years ago) there was awful. Friends booked me in for a treat the day of my hen and I left looking like a 1980s bridesmaid!

A couple of other places I've tried in town on and off but not regularly were Solo(not bad and cheaper than The Edge), Darcys(good but always seemed to waiting for ages despite having an appointment). I keep going back to The Edge. There probably are cheaper places but I've yet to find somewhere I've been consistently as happy with the results.

A friend of mine with wavy hair recommended John Geaneys lately too. A girl in work swears by Origin.

Rebels on North Main St is as good as anywhere.

Stay away from Goodfellas on Dublin Hill, unless you want to be scalped.

went to The Edge, the staff we nice - listened to what I wanted but it was a rushed job.. I got a wash cut and blow dry - got a wavy blow dry so I did not know what the cut was like until i straightened my hair myself - very "cut" looking - not soft enough for my liking,.. and my blow dry was very poor - was done way too fast - my hair was fuzzy afterwards - maybe just a little but it was defo fuzzy but the time i got home and i was going out that night…

not sure if i will be back..

and the hair dresser was very distracted - colleagues kept talking to him about work issues while he was doing my hair…

not enough attention on the job or time.. but of a conveyor belt..

but regardless of all of that - the cut if not the best..

maybe it would have been better had he spent more time and with more attention, on me…

    thanks for the recommendation though..

think I wil try Rukhi next - on tuckey street - anyone ever tried them?

That's annoying, feel bad for the recommendation now! Have honestly had only good experiences. Was in there Friday myself and again am happy out. Heard good things about Rukhi a couple of years ago And Guapa on the same street but haven't heard anything too recently. Saying that, I haven't been on the lookout for a new hairdresser.

I have been going to guapa for a few months now and finally I have found a salon that gets me , the atmosphere is amazing in there and the styles they do are amazing , I get my balyage in there and feel amazing every time I see the colourist , (he is quite blunt but love him for that cause he tells me the truth how I look) can't wait for my next visit :)

I have always hated getting my hair cut but am happy to have found this place, I get my hair cut by the same person each time and the same cut.

I've been going here since I moved to Cork over four years ago.
Very cool place with great staff, I'm really happy with the hair cut I get.

Being a bloke, I can't comment on womens hair cuts or costs. But Guapa does seem to have a lot of repeat customers which is a very good sign.

Best of luck finding your new stylists.

Did you try Wayne Lloyd sporina? He's very very good with hair with kinks in it... I've the same thing going on. Get Wayne though, not other stylist.

I have wavy/ frizzy hair that I normally have straight. Faye in Artisan in Donnybrook is amazing. She cuts it just right, knows exactly what to do with difficult hair and isn't afraid to tell you where you are going wrong. Not cheap but worth every single cent. She transformed my hair.

He moves between bandon, way out west and washington street. Washington street one he is in only on Tuesdays. So give them a call and ask for an appointment with him on a tuesday. I can't remember how much it was, last cut for me was december. I really like them though. Very professional.
