Just wondering, whats the prices for boxed Pokemon games, from red to emerald? I have them all unboxed, but I've decided to try and get them boxed, but looking for a copy of red, €62 seems to be the going price, is that reasonable?

Unfortunately pokemon games have always attracted a premium and more so recently as a lot of the kids who grew up with the series are now in their 20s/late teens, have disposable income and want to buy the originals again. It's ridiculous though with the amount of copies out there. With some patience you should be able to get a boxed copy of red for €30-40 posted. See here:

Just keep checking eBay. Be very careful when buying though as there's a lot of fakes and reproductions out there. Alternatively if you just want nice boxes, go for the Japanese versions which are usually a fraction of the price.

Pretty much although anything that comes in flimsy cardboard boxes Nintendo used sells for a high enough price these days boxed.

Christ, there is a lot of fake GBA cartridges isn't there? I've nearly been got twice, but I've been checking a guide to make sure I don't buy anything dodgy.

They are probably the most pirated cart out there.
    Horrible tbh.
A way to save some time is to buy EU releases only, where you can.
Most dodgy carts, the ones purporting to be in english, have US repro labels.
Of course, there will be times when this isn't the case.

Presumably these repro cartridges are cheap? Dunno why they'd bother otherwise.
I'm trying to buy both EU and boxed, since I assume thats the best way to go, even if thats the most expensive.

Megadrive carts are about to become a whole lot messier to collect too, with the introduction of these cheap repro/flash boards :(

Cheap to make yeah but some people will try pass them off as the real thing and charge full whack. As a general rule I'll only buy gameboy stuff from the UK or Japan. Wouldn't even look at sales from China.

That looks genuine. But its too cheap, and theres some negative feedback saying he's sent fake cartridge before.

Definite fake. Plastic isn't the right colour and the label isn't on right.

    Danke, saved me 16 quid.

That's another thing to look out for with Pokemon games. Make sure the carts are the right colour. Get to know the translucency of R/S/E as a lot of fakes will be either too see through or not see through enough.

Quite difficult to tell from a limited photo :p I was gonna go the rage, but its so expensive, they had a boxed copy of Blue in there for 65, but it was awful banged up, no instructions, just the box and game rattling round.

Beware of Rage, they sell a lot of fakes. I've only ever bought one fake GBA game and it came from that shower. They're near clueless about fakes themselves and can't be trusted.

So somewhere else to avoid? :P

Definitely when it comes to GBA games unless you know what to look for and even then I'd be opening them up too see the PCB.

Really the only thing you can do is educate yourself on what to look out for and read reviews of sellers.

    PCB?

Well I'm using this guide as a reference

    http://gbatemp.net/threads/identifying-fake-gba-games-a-useful-faq.327354/

But it can be difficult to tell from limited photos from online sellers.

    Printed Circuit Board.

Basically get a gamebit screwdriver open up the cart and check it's real.

These came today, one off eBay, one off adverts.

The battery is dead on ruby, but it still saves so I don't care.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

The good thing about the GBA games is that the battery is only used for the clock and the saves are flash based so you don't have to worry about losing them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,835 ✭✭✭✭cloud493

So its the GB games that I'll have to either get the batteries replaced in or make sure to buy working ones?

Yeah. Nearly all G/S/C games will have dead batteries by now as I think they used lower quality ones or there's more usage due to the clock. A lot of R/B/Y batteries will still work but I'd say they're on the way out. You can pick up the CR 2032 batteries cheap on eBay so it's best just to replace them to ensure years of hassle free use. It's fairly simple to do anyway.
