    Hi All,

Looking into buying a 1.6 diesel Mazda 3. Currently have a 00 1.4 Focus and it's killing me on petrol. I do a lot of Motorway driving, easily about 25k a year for work.

Is there anything I should look out for with these cars? Are they reliable or have any faults? Have 9k to spend so hoping to get a 09 or 10.

Or would you guys recommend something similar? Thanks :)

Mazda 3 shares the same chassis as the Ford Focus. 1.6d is a Peugeot/Citroen engine which is also shared with the Focus. Can be a temperamental engine if not serviced on time or looked after properly.

I'd look towards the Hyundai i30, tend to be higher spec and a bit more robust:

Honda Civic is worth looking at too:

Thanks for the replies! Test drove both an i30 and Mazda 3 on saturday morning, both lovely cars. Leaning a bit towards the mazda, but the 1 year warranty on the i30 is also tempting.

Dealer offered me 1500 for my focus, so I can pay the rest in cash. Will deffo be picking up either one of these cars!

So did you end up getting the Mazda? My missus has a 07 yaris looking to change to 10 Mazda 3 diesel or similar, love the i30 new model but the oldest one is a 12 reg which is too expensive for us.
