There is serious amount of spelling errors and grammar so that kind of put me off.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,943 ✭✭✭smcgiff

Was there a face to face interview? And is the poor grammar and syntax yours or is it verbatim from their communication?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

The spelling is a major red flag for me and Googling the company doesn't really bring up anything. I'd be avoiding tbh

I got an email and that is what it said and also they attatched the draft.
Funnily enough I just applied for it 4 hours ago.

No face to face interview yet anyways....

Shall I ask them for anything so I can verify if they are genuine or not, they asked for for my response in that email saying if you are happy then we can continue to the next step.

Just read the attachment - 99.9% sure it's a scam.

My guess they make a cheque payment to you for 100% of your invoice, but remember you should only get 75% and therefore need to pay them back 25%. Their cheque then bounces and you are down 25%.

    Completely fake. Sorry.

You applied for it at 8pm on a Friday night and they got back to you saying you're successful in a few hours?

Sounds off to me especially with so many mistakes in the email.

Ah it was listed on gumtree anyways, I had this coming to me.
    Bunch of wasters out there.
I applied for so many jobs on gumtree and the amount of people, even the genuine ones slack off.
Just yesterday I got a text from this person who I applied for a position of a transport co-ordinator, he told me that I will get a call from him at 7, I called him at 8 asking whats the story I got no call from you, then said I will call you tomorrow(Saturday) after 2pm.
    *Sigh......

Jue to most off the contract in England and to be far to each sub contractor
It will involve driving to England for the first collection and keeping the van in uk
For a average off six week .This Jue to the cost off the ferrie and the shortage off
Delivery from uk to Ireland .
I wonder is keeping the van in the UK for tax purposes?
For the first two payment Keltic global will have to hold back 25% off the invoice
This is to cover late payment it will take a bit off time to arrange thing
The 25% will then be payed as soon as our payment clear
    This here is scam territory!
The office will be in contact way the drivers all the time too.(viber)
So... you'll be in contact with the office via a throwaway viber account?

You gotta admit though, must have took those guys a long time to type this all out and stuff.
I emailed them, asking for a face to face interview and if there is any application forms, seems they are slow to reply now.

    Got a reply:

    Hello

Can tell way type and age off van do you have
    Please fill out the attachment
I am in Germany to next Thursday .
But will be in Derry City.
So I may not be possible for a face to face meeting
We can arrange time so we can have a telephone conversation .

Other than that we can arrange a date were you can start.

    Thanks keith

What do ye think lads ?

Think you'll be subcontracting for someone who has very bad english, so I'd question if he knows the laws?

Also, your only way of contacting him is via Viber. As you can install it on a PC, as well as your phone, you may be talking to some lad in India for all you know!

In the previous post I put up a document where he posted his number, there is an Irish number and a UK number, Ill give it a call tomorrow to see, but it could be a scam at the same time, that guy could be working with bunch of other lads.
Anyway to make sure if this is legitimate or not ?

When I read that you applied to adverts on Gumtree I knew it would probably be a scam. That site has more scammers than donedeal. Play him along if you wish, but just beware that its a SCAM, SCAM, SCAM>

    Ah, missed that one.

    Found this; https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/director/16116682/keith-gamble

Keith Gamble has been the director for two months.

Hrm, possible legit. The bad english, and the "keep 25%" reads like a scam, however, is still very offputting.

    They sometimes appropriate real names.

OP, is the email address specific to the company or generic like hotmail?

Keltic global are based in Londonderry (official address), so you could ask directory enquiries to put you through. Will cost you a couple of quid in operator costs, but at least you'll find out for sure.

Actually, just checked and that chap is listed as living in Donegal - won't give out full address on boards.ie - but if you look it up it would be cheaper to request an Irish phone number.

    He's a 33 year old irish carpenter/builder.

I would expect his level of English to be much better and the Yahoo address doesn't inspire confidence.

Was actually looking at his CV there, and it seems his english in it is as bad, with the use of "Jue" instead of "due" throughout.

Also, it seems Gamble is a popular name in Donegal.

OP; how desperate are you for this job? Very desperate, maybe go for the job. Not desperate; avoid.

Well spotted. Looks like he might be real. I've never come across that error in spelling before.

    It's all very strange.

OP, ask him for his mobile number so you can talk to him.

Tried ringing him on viber but no response. Will try again later. Thanks for the research lads.

why are you bothering trying to ring him
    its an obvious scam
don't waste you're time mate seriously

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,519 ✭✭✭Take Your Pants Off

I rang him and his English is actually quite good.
So this is how it works, the company pays for your fuel and you have to get a van, that has to be above 2008 year.
Looks legit when I am actually talking to him.

I will see how it goes out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,943 ✭✭✭smcgiff

what will you be actually be doing?

Basically I have to stay in UK and carry out parcel deliveries there for different companies.
Ill prob get a loan of a van for 1 month. I have relations there so I will stay there. They pay for my fuel travel. So there is no loss I can have and if there is, it would be minimum. But in the end these are the risks we have to take.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 204 ✭✭iCrazzy

I am on the phone and this is my account I was using just in case people got confused, lol.
The other account is my sons.

Like gamble? at this stage it seems like in the thread if its real, but getting a van and them paying for the fuel while someone does the work in advance, be different if they supplied a van, but this is some upfront cost for someone to provide.

I'm always frightened by the terrible spelling, I just can't believe people could actually be as bad as they are (mine here isn't usually great, as when I'm typing at speed I miss all sorts, not great at the typing).

If you're looking for a transport role give the guys in Logiskills a call. They do a lot of logistics jobs and got me my last one.

I wouldn't be wasting my time with this one.

Sounds like you are about to lose 80 squid.......at least!
We will be suppling cargo nets ,straps and trolly fro each driver at a cost off 80 pound
    Taking off fist payment

Bit of googling brought this up

    KELTIC GROUP MONSIEUR KEITH GAMBLE
    LE CLAIRFONTAINE
    RUE HENRI PASCHKE
    06400 Cannes

    http://www.118000.fr/e_C0056302075

There's also an address for the company in Derry.....
    21-23 Clarendon Street
    Londonderry
    County Londonderry
    BT48 7EP

There's also a rake of other companies registered at that address which would suggest it's not their base of operations - it's their legal address only

I have a van but its not above 2009, I have been applying every where but not luck.
I am at my 50s, there is not much I can do.
I barely have any education, all I carry is loads of delivery and courier experience.
Only have a B license so it is quite hard.

What kind of "packages" will you be delivering? Sounds so dodgy.

I dunno what neck of the woods you're from but if you have your own van you could become a courier here in Ireland…for someone like Fastway. They are always looking for people.

    That one sounds incredibly dodgy

Spelling/Grammar is obviously bad because English isn't his first language.

Yh, I tried fastway, I tried everywhere trust me.
    But no luck.
It is parcels from different companies, I think I will discuss with him more and keep this thread updated.

Please take the advice here and avoid this job.

I should been clearer. They are a recruitment agency.
There are lots of courier companies around that employ owner drivers and keep a percentage of the job for office admin etc.
Just Google for couriers. There are a lot of reputable ones out there without going for this scam.
B licence is call you need for a van. When I had drivers off sick, I'd often hop in a sprinter to do a run. I was able to drive a box body on a long wheel base.

I'm out of the transport business these days. :)
