Would my Canadian TV work back home?

    Hey there.

So I got quite lucky on an absolute peach of a TV.

50inch Magnavox LED Full HD for around $315 including a cleaning kit and HDMI cable.

I plan on going home in late 2015 or early 2016 and would love to ship it back.

    Model No: 50ME313V/F7

Also, I'm not overly concerned about this but would I need a transformer if I shipped my PS3 back?

Its the newest 500Gb generation of the console, with the sliding disc tray on top.

Page 2 of this: http://download.m4c.magnavox.com/files/5/50me313v_f7/50me313v_f7_pss_aenus.pdf says it's ATSC/NTSC only, no native PAL support

If that's your model then you could use it but you'd need a pal to NTSC convert or or an NTSC source

    Yeah that's the model.

Ahh right I see. The converters don't seem all that expensive.

Yeah, I'm not overly concerned about the PS3, I had a feeling I'd need a transformer but I thought I'd ask none the less.

    Thank you.

Games out here, insanely cheap, Gotta love the Dollar!

Should be no problem other than the voltage conversion providing you only use US / Canadian equipment with it.

However, it's important to note that although European equipment will connect via HDMI, it probably won't work.

HDMI is only a cable standard but the data coming from US and European equipment is different.

So using that rationale a US PS4 wouldn't work on a EU HDMI television. But it does and it works perfectly.

Indeed. European TVs will work with both 50 and 60 Hz scanning.
North American TVs will often only work at 60Hz. That is the case with this one as shown in the manual.

To use it you will need a big transformer to convert to 120volts. You will need an HDMI 50 to 60 Hz converter and a Saorview or satellite box with HDMI output.

Better to sell it and buy again over here. Rule is not to take TVs across the Atlantic.

Total waste of money to bring ANY video/TV/Sat gear from North America to Europe.

Virtually every European TV supports American & Canadian standards for HDMI, but none for RF TV socket (though not always 110V).

Almost nothing in North American market supports European Video, European RF, MHEG5 interactive or 230V mains.

AFAIK No TVs are made in North America any more.

Conversion equipment + shipping will cost far more than a local TV, which despite what shops often claim has 2 years+ under SOGA (Replace, repair or refund anything not user created damage).

    Conversion always degrades quality too.
