Selling my current motor as bank have offered me cash..simply because there nice guys

I would think around 9-11 to spend. I would ideally like a 09 or 10

I have points so i dont want to go nuts..at moment ive golf gt tdi

Vrs would more than likely be out of my range..iguess a passat

A fast reliable diesel or low insurance bracket petrol is the plan

    Any other suggestions

This will make it easier. Does it have to be as fast as your current car?

When you say a VRS would more than likely be out of range, is that because you've got points or because you couldn't afford one?

There are ample VRS' within your budget on Donedeal, all TDI.

You want a fast car ........ and already have points.

Alarm bells are ringing for me here! Maybe you need to take it a bit easier?

You can enjoy a powerful car without speeding though.

Well, you sound like you are sensible, and I know how easy it can be to pick up points, was more playing Devils Advocate.

    Good luck with the hunt.

Insurance could be an issue. Mine was cheaper on my 3.0 jaguar than on my Civic - go figure - 240bhp vs 140bhp

Strangely enough I was looking through quotes a while back and I couldnt believe that an Opel Corsa OPC was coming in cheaper than some turbo diesels.
    Might be worth a look.

Was just looking at a vw passat highline

    12.2 k for a 105bhp highline 2009

In general are the passat or the highline model good motors?

A 105 BHP Passat will not be anywhere near as quick as your Golf.

What about a 140bhp? I guess from an insurance point of view it would be same class

The lower bhp Passats are dead enough.
I assume your Golf gt tdi is 140 brake. If so going to a 105 Passat will be a fair drop in power, bigger heavier car etc.

1- would 140 bhp passat be same insurance group as my golf?
2- i assume a skoda vrs is a higher group?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

Insurance on a vrs isn't bad at all, probably not much than the Golf. If anything the increase would probably be because of the increased value.

There's a lot of variables involved but they aren't an expensive car to insure on the whole to be honest.

a VRS decreases my insurance by a few %. A 140 BHP Passat decreses it by 12%. weird I thought but That's good news

have to agree here . test drive one , it will be a fair shock to the system , no fun to drive.
I would also say don't go petrol. After a few months of putting petrol in you would regret going there. It can get costly
