    "Twirlgate"

For fúck sake, journalists frothing at the mouth to hop on the latest case of misogynism and shít out another long-winded opinion piece.

The tennis player in question, Eugenie Bouchard, has asked people to stop talking about this as she wasn't offended and would rather people focused on her actual tennis skills.

Seriously, would he ask Andy Murray or Rodger?

But the men play more sets for the same money as the women.

It's only fair that the women do some post match entertainment to earn their money, their matches are over in no time at all :)

Yawn. Nothing to see here. Player herself said it was funny.

Sure weren't we only delighted last week that Messi and Ronaldo were ogling our own Stephanie Roche at the Balon D'Or?

Exactly, if she was offended, she wouldn't have done a twirl.

I'm not outraged, but its a shame to see that after all her hard work as a sportsperson, and on the high of winning the match, that her pink outfit that more than likely her sponsors told her she had to wear, seemed to be the most newsworthy thing to talk to her about, not her skill.

The comments shows the 'journalist' up as a bit of a twat.

No. It was embarrassing behaviour from the media and the public, and insulting to Ronaldo, Messi and Roche. Mostly Ronaldo and Messi though.

    That doesn't necessarily follow

She looked v uncomfortable when asked

I agree it doesn't mean she wasn't offended, she would have felt social pressure not to decline. But they are both grown adults, he can ask what he wants and she can respond how she wants. She should have said she'll give him a twirl if he gives her a twirl first.

She was asked a few years ago, after a match, which celebrity would she date and answered Justin Bieber.

SJW can be outraged on her behalf as this is a non-scandal.

She's a 20 year old woman, at her place of work, being pressured into giving an old man a better look at her body.

If you can't see the problem with that then I don't know what to say.

Pretty such something like this happened at the Aussie Open last year - a hack taking a sexist line of questioning with a female player.

What does his age have to do with it? He didn't ask her to undress.

The media frequently asks male athletes to pose in a particular way to show off their assets.

The only difference is the media doesn't freak out about it.

It's not okay to be sexist.
But it's okay to be ageist.

    Welcome to the modern world.

    Yes

She looked slightly embarrassed but the faux indignation you felt that needed an immediate thread started about just isn't there. She was caught off guard, i think anyone would have been a little bit shy twirling in front of a crowd.

What if a bunch of women were screaming for Nadal to take his shirt off. Is this "demeaning". It's a bloody laugh people need to stop taking themselves so seriously.

She was asked to show off her outfit because, the previous evening she had commented on Serena Williams' outfit (which was quite similar).

Of course that doesn't matter to the hordes of people rushing to feel offended on her behalf.

On another note - I was watching Operation Transformation on Wednesday night with the OH, and there were numerous comments made about Karl Henry's arse.

Funnily enough there hasn't been a storm of outrage from any of the usual suspects about this crass objectification of a man :pac:

Oh no. Quick, to the twitter mobile! I hope I'm not too late to catch the next outrage bandwagon. Worst case scenario I miss this one but a man might say hello to a woman so I can be at the front of #hellogate

    Friday, Jan. 23
Bouchard attempted to quash growing discontent over the "twirl" request on Friday, raising her own tongue-in-cheek solution, per BBC Sport:

I'm not offended. I'm fine with being asked to twirl if they ask the guys to flex.

I think it was an in-the-moment thing and it was funny.

Put away the torches and pitchforks for the next scandal
