Slurry Splash Plate Rubber Cone - Cut opening or not??

Some fellas use the splash plate cone as god intended. With a 2.25 inch opening for a good wide spread width.

Other fellas like to circumcise ;) a 1/2 of an inch off the end of the cone to make a larger opening. Less blockages, empty tank faster, albeit with a narrower spread width.

    What do you recommend?

Any ideas what spread width could I expect if I cut a bit off the cone??
I currently get a 12m spread width at 0.5 Bar pressure using a standard cone.

Or will I just cut it and chance it? :o:o

id be inclined to agitate the tank a bit better to tell the truth. I work for a contractor and spread a fair amount of slurry. we agitate ourselves and might only get blocked once a week. I find the wide spread pattern is extremely handy for wet ground , you can spread into the wet spots . There is less travelling and compaction as well. If you had a spare cone it could be worth trying though. but cut too much and you could end up buying a new cone and band.

You are lucky that the tanks you empty are free of debris.

I end up dealing with a fair bit of trash in some of the tanks that I empty. Bits of plastic and netting, balls of silage, pieces of timber. Total pain in the hole to be dealing with.

A slightly larger opening in the cone might make my life a bit easier I'm thinking

    Bump

At slurry this morning. Nice even spread from plate....

Hacksaw at the ready, will I or won't I?!

Anyone else cut their cone larger?

Yep. Worked out grand. Cut off a quarter of an inch. Loads emptying 30 secs faster. Spread width is a metre narrower, thankfully still even.

What tank pressure should I be spreading at. Currently spreading at 0.5 bar. What RPM should tractor be doing (540 box)

Are you spreading your own or contracting. to be fair if its your own all the debris is your own making. Lad I work for can be fairly tidy in that regard. When feeding bales we scrape up any silage that ends up on the slats for example.
If you are contracting and keep finding stuff, id be letting the farmer know that you are slow on making progress because of all the debris and he knows the longer it takes the more it costs him, We have one lad who feeds bales of silage pushed all the way up to the barriers so he wont have to push in the silage in. One year agitating it took forever. every 60 seconds the agitator was getting blocked with lumps of silage . agitator was a cross with a macerator (unblockable) . Farmer was told in passing that it took 3 times longer than It should have, next year it was a hell of a lot better

Always spread with the tractor at tickover. Anything more and the relief valve at the pump would blow

in relation to spreading at tick over?. I thought 350 rpm would be needed. I dont know of many spreading at tick over?, Are you using 1000 shaft?

    Pto speed I'd imagine

Anything over 310 rpm on the pto and the relief valve will blow off on ours, but that's with a 10000ltr pump, 8000ltr pumps may need a few more revs to keep the pressure.

As for pressure the relief valve is set to blow around 0,9bar, and generally keep it just barely under it

Same here , 10k litre pump. To tell the truth the last tank we had was a 1600abbey with a 8000litre pump and she spread at tick over too.
We always made sure the pumps had enough oil . This would help or hinder a pump a lot if it didnt have oil. also if a vein was stuck and you didnt know it could hinder it

Yep oil would be a fair part of it alright!

Spread and fill at 310 here in 540 Eco set auto on tractor so press and play.

Engine oil seems to be what's being recommend for newer pumps.

On splash plate a student damaged ours a few yrs ago and could never be got right. We have a new guy here since Jan and he reversed into a stack of bales the other day bending it into a looban. He disappeared for 40 mins came back and its absolutely perfect since :)

Not if I've anything to do with it, he's a keeper. Not a manager but a savage man to get work done. We've a whiteboard with all the little todo jobs and he has it nearly cleared
