My girlfriend arrived home to her street tonight and a clamp notice was on her car for not displaying a parking permit-but there was no clamp.

Anyone know what the craic is with this??!

read the clamp notice... is the reg number on the ticket the same as what is on the car? if not someone else took the clamp off their car and stuck the notice on the nearest car

That'll be Clamp-man. He follows clampers and removes the offending article. He wears blue lycra with a red cape. Kaks outside his tights. It's rumoured he can leap tall buildings in a single bound. :p

    Hi cfleming89,
Something similiar happened to me. My car was clamped yesterday outside my house along with some other cars in the area including the neighbours car. Later on that evening i heard noise outside the door so i looked out and saw these guys removing the clamp! I checked the other cars and their clamps were gone too. Are you in the dublin 8 area? Did you contact dcc? They say i owe them €580 for the clamp!!!

Brilliant, I presume you told them what they could do for it. Maybe someone has got a hold of their keys and is going around doing a robin hood.

    YES!!

Rang DCC to pay the clamp fine, he told me it would be 580. I said no. He said he'd take the fine payment off me but the car would still be towed if it was clamped again.

i.e. towed if I didn't pay, and towed if I did.

I've filed a garda report just to cover myself from that point of view but there's no f$%^ing hope in hell that i'm paying that amount of money!

Ok , you park your car,(legally or illegally )someone comes along and clamps it , someone else comes and unclamps it - not your issue - you have no responsibilty for or duty of care to the clamp - now if it can be proved (in court ) that you damaged the clamp or removed the clamp to deny the owner use, then there's trouble -
That's not to say that you may not still owe Dcc the release fee ,if they have proof that you were parked illegally - bit like a parking fine -

Yip, no issue paying the clamp fine of 80 euro as ridiculous as it may be. The goon on the phone told me though even if I did pay it they'd still try and hold me responsible for the clamp! What a clown!

They can try - but without evidence you can tell them to jump -

Any chance it was just somebody having a laugh? I came back to a clamp notice a couple of years ago. Initially got a bit of a start, but saw almost straight away that there was no clamp attached. Somebody had taken the notice from another car and stuck it on mine.

Little amuses the simple, I suppose...

A bloke on a site I was working on a few months ago was clamped 3 times in about 8 or 9 days by the dublin clampers and just cut them off no sign of his van being towed the second or third time.
