    Hi,

Does anyone have any advice on keeping Bulk and cutting Fat.

Everytime i cut, i tend to lose a lot of muscle mass (no it was not fat :-)

Thanks for any advice or tips you have.

Ah yes, the time of year to shed the excesses of Christmas.

    In short:
    • Don't go into too much of a calorie deficit
    • Proportionally, aim to lower your carb intake rather than protein/fat
    • Continue lifting but you may need to do so less regularly as it will take longer to recover
    • Read Lyle McDonald

In terms of calorie deficit, last year I had very good results using Lyle's formula of deficit of 31 calories per pound of fat per day (see here)

However, these are just guidelines as everyone is different and what worked for me may not work for anyone else.

There are things you can do to help as MF has said above , but there is also a certain amount you can't do anything about. Just as you gain fat during a bulk you're going to lose muscle during a cut , you won't get it all done in 1 or 2 bulk cut cycles and gaining substantial amounts of muscle mass will take years.

Look up carb cycling..This is what I do instead of a traditional bulk cut and it makes things a lot easier in the long run.

Or else just do a 2 week cut/4 week bulk routine like Layne norton used to do (look this up if your interested).
