05 Honda Civic

    HI there,

Require a little advice, I own a 2005 Honda Civic bought it this time last year (with only 80000 km), last November I was going along nicely on M50 by Carrickmines when all of a sudden I lost all power, had to get it towed etc. I brought it to a mechanic and he said that it was a Co2 sensor (I think) which he replaced. The car was running but everytime you went to start it took 3-5 attempts to do it. After a week or so the alarm started beeping even while driving (beep, beep, beepbeepbeep. Occassionally it stops and makes a sound like when you reconnect the battery and then wont beep at all until the next time you try to start it, when it again makes the 'battery' sound and back we go to the beeping). It was making sounds like coughing/back firing but I got it serviced 10 days ago and it is still at the same lark.

Does anyone have any clue what the craic with this is. I have toyed with the idea with bringing it to a Honda dealership but have gotten my pants pulled down by those guys in the past and the mechanic I brought it to I ain't to hot on bringing it back to him.

    Many thanks in advance

ive never seen an O2 sensor make a car cut outmthe way youn describe it... Are you sure it wasn't a cam or crank sensor? The beep beep sounds like an alarm that needs to be reset and as for the hard start, I'd have to see it and test various bits while she's not starting. Kay be connected to a faulty cam or crank sensor

Obviously your suspicions on the mechanic you brought it to not being too hot may be well founded. The faults are obviously persisting but it isn't clear whether they are related to the original issue.

What I would say about Honda's is that these are incredibly fussy about the O2 sensors that are put in them. Using non genuine sensors has been known to create all sorts of fun and new issues emerging with them. The genuine articles for these are megabucks but they are the only parts that do work properly. No doubt some will come on here and berate me for saying this, but if you research this yourself you will find that what I am saying is correct. This sort of thing is an example

Before going anywhere else with this, get someone who is competent to look at this properly for you and tell you exactly what's causing the faults. If the O2 sensor was replaced with an non genuine one then personally, I would replace it with the correct one.
