Nissan Tida Problem!

    Hi All

Turning to you guys for some help/advice.

The father inlaw has a Nissan Tida 07, very low milage about 40,000 kilometers. He sent it in to have the breaks done about 6 weeks ago and it had its last service in September.

After the break job was done a couple of days later he tried to start the car and it wouldnt start, he asked me to have a look as he thought it might be the battery but it started for me first time by just turning the key when I got there.

A week later the same thing happened, this time it wouldnt start with a turn or a jump but started on a push. Drove again fine started every time for about 5 days.

Brought it to a garage locally and they couldnt find any problems with it, it was still starting fine.

It went again last Thursday and it wouldnt start on jump or push, plenty of life in the battery all windows/lights etc working. We had no choice but to call road side assistance who took it to a different local garage.

I rang them on Friday morning and they said it started first time, I asked them to give it a good look over as it keeps happening, they kept the car until yesterday morning and said they could find nothing and it was still starting fine, no issues coming up on the computer, checked wires and mechanically seems fine.

He took it out to get petrol this morning and then he tried to start it leaving the garage its happened again.

At a loss what to do here, he can get roadside assistance to bring it home or to another garage but two have looked at it now and said it is fine.

When trying to start it lights etc. come on and its ticking over trying to get a catch (so its chucking) but it can't get a start?

Could any of you steer me in the right direction as to how to get it fixed?

    Tricky one.
So it tries to start but just doesn't catch on?
When it was last serviced were all the filters replaced? Fuel filter for example?
Fuel pump also comes to mind.

Yep when it has the problem it tries to start but doesnt catch on. Everytime we got it going, so jump, push and after the tow it catches everytime until it goes again.

It had a full service in September, the garage we had it in the weekend said he could see its well serviced and said he could find no issues with anything.

Both garages said the fuel pump, starter motor and carbinator (or something like that) all appear fine!

    Do you mean carburetor?
Is it a petrol or diesel? How about the spark plugs?

Ok, so that to me tells me there is a fuelling issue.
Fuel injector pump could also be on the way out.

Right, well I'm fairly certain the Tiida doesn't have a carburetor.

I had asked the Garage to check that, will ring them now and see if they did and see if they can look again

I think what it is the alternator I meant to refer too.

appreciate your help here, range the garage that had looked at it and they said they dont know what else to do with it maybe bring it to Nissan

Is there a fuel pump in or near the fuel tank or maybe a filter back there that's gone dodgy, but as Bear says it seems to be a certain intermittent fuel delivery problem.

@Soups: I recall having a similar issue to you when I had an Alfa.
After a while the car would jump and die if I floored it, I changed the filter - cured it for a small bit and then the problem came back.
Thought I'd chance my arm and change the crank shaft sensor even though no error codes were coming up.
    Nothing.
I gave up in the end and brought it a diesel specialist who told me that the injector pump was failing. The pressure was just too low and the engine would just shut down.
I luckily got a second hand unit inserted and the problem went but a new one was going to cost me a very pretty penny.
I would advise at this point to bring it to a local garage and ask them to check the pressure from the injector pump.

I'm going to tow it to a mechanic I use local to me. Appreciate your help here. I'll drop back in once/if its sorted and let you know what it was!

The problem could be due to a carbon build up in the throttle housing.
