Ya saw it earlier and I think ifa etc are totally wrong trying to extend hedge cutting dates.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

What a stupid idea. The period allowed for cutting hedges is more than long enough already.

If a hedge is properly maintained and shaped during the current hedge cutting season in Autumn/Winter, there should be no reason to go near it again outside of this period. In any case the current legislation allows the trimming of roadside verges if the CC deems it to be a traffic hazard in areas like blind corners or junctions which usually only involves a few metres of a hedge in any case. Therefore I can see no reason for changes to the current state of play

Long enough if you're talking about roads and dry fields. Not much good for those of us where land is only trafficable from mid April to about the first of October. This's gives me a month if I'm lucky (September) to sort out all hedges, scrub, briars etc. I for one would welcome an extension back to 15th August.

Actually if you look at the Met records since 2000, September has actually been significantly dryer and warmer than August for much of that time. Indeed if you look at the bad summers of 2002 and the ones between 2007-12, September delivered the closest thing we had to summer weather those years. Indeed that is a trend that is noticeable going back to bad summers well before that too eg, 98',97,85 etc.

Yes, agreed about September. I'm just making the point that for many of us, the hedge cutting season is a month rather than six.

I understand where your coming from - most of my small holding in North Mayo is glorified bog.
