S4 4G not working

Hi, I bought an S4 from Ebay last week and I can't get the 4G to work.

I've been onto 3 and they sent me an update over the phone which did nothing.

Next I was onto Samsung and they gave me another update, went home installed it and still nothing.

Went back there this evening and the man in the shop who was very helpful and seemingly knowledgeable failed to rectify my problem. He said that he's never seen any problem like mine with an S4.

The only possible solution he said is to get a new sim card as mine is a full sized sim which I cut with a scissors and also the fact that it's about two years old. However I was onto 3 technical support and they said that a new sim won't do anything and that they can do nothing further to help as the phone wasn't bought from 3.

As I'm sure you all know it's the LTE/WCDMA/GSM option that I'm looking for under network mode.

I'm beginning to wonder if my €200 saving was worth it at all! Any more questions which could help please don't hesitate to ask.

Also I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this thread if not would a mod please move it.

Do you have a link to the eBay listing?
You may have bought a US or Asian specific version of the S4 which doesn't support the 4G LTE bands we use in Ireland.

If you take the back cover off what's the Samsung model number you see?

The GT-I9500 may not be a 4G phone - http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9500_galaxy_s4-5125.php

You need a GT-I9505 version of the S4 for 4G

Sorry to say but that version of the S4 doesn't support LTE.
Its the Asian international version without the LTE band support as seen from your eBay listing with phone sourced from Hong Kong.
You should have been looking for the GT-I9505.

Ya I see that now from wiki. Anyway to get it to work or should I just return it?

No way to fix it.
You may be able to open a dispute on eBay, PayPal to return as the listing is a little misleading but it looks like a copy paste job from a tech website rather than genuine mistake.
