Hi all! So I find myself in a pickle. I had a few job interviews (3 at this stage) with a known company.
My problem lies in the fact that I took what was a temporary job 2 years ago in an unrelated field to that where this company works (and where I have most of my experience). When I went to the first interview I sorted of fibbed and told them that I was working in a job I finished 2 years ago, this was an informal interview.
I have gone through all the interviews (with a panel of various people, never the first person that I had a chat with) and I am now asked to give my work history, this is where I am stuck, I don't know whether to keep fibbing and give the details of my last job as my current job or to come clean and put down my current place of work.
I am almost sure if I do the latter they will not hire me.
I really hate my current job and need to leave asap and this new position would be perfect in terms of the career I want to have but it also suits my previous experience to a T.
    Please help!!!

well the damage is done now I am sure they won't hire me. I'm tempted to not even send this into them

I can't quite imagine why you have been 'fibbing' - but I'd write up that work history honestly if I were you. You must've had some reason to fib. If they query your truthful work history, think of what you'll say. Maybe they'll understand to some extent? They sure as heck will not understand a crock of lies regarding your most recent employment in a written work history though. Well that's my thinking.

Like the above poster, ideally you should play it straight, however you've gone through three interviews successfully without anyone spotting any flaws and my gut instinct would be to carry on. The interview process at this stage is probably at the medical, pay details, formalising contracts etc.,and this is just normal housekeeping.

On the contrary however they could be collating the info so as to check references. If they haven't been checked already, and you should make enquiries with past emplovers if possible, then your fxxxed and you should come clean. If they have got references I'd plod on regardless and take my chances.

Well I have been trying to get into this particular industry for many years 4 to be exact and of all the iterviews I had all I heard was no or no reply at all.
When when he asked me it just kind of came out. I really really want this job and if it was now I would have told him the truth but then I am almost sure if I had told him the truth I wouldn't even had gotten the chance to go to further interviews.

I had submitted written refs but the sent me something where I have to give all work details and contact details for those jobs. So I think they will be contacting previous employers.
Keep in mind this in no way affects my experience in the field.

If there gonna check references then your fecked. Make an appointment asap with an interviewer who you believe you got on exceptionally well with and come clean.

If you say nothing and they check previous employers it's gonna look an awful lot worse.

This is the thing I only told the initial interviewer in an informal setting I was never asked anything about where I worked after that.
When I spoke to human resources in the official interviews I was only asked if I worked to which I replied yes, they never delved into any details of where I worked or what I am currently working as.
The original guy is very busy and I do not have is contact at all, to be honest I don't even know if he is involved in the rest of the process, I don't think he is though.
The interviews focused on a position I occupied 4 years ago which was in the industry. The references I submitted were for this position and they are 100% real.

If the only time you've fIbbed was at the initial interview and it was never raised later well then I would just fill out everything correctly now and just go through the process as if it never happened in the first place. And learn from it.
Good luck and don't forget to photocopy the forms you do send in as eventually all these fibs do catch up!!

well I completed the form truthfully and sent it off. Now all I have to do is cross my fingers.

Dishonesty is a massive no no for an interviewer. Your goose is cooked I'm afraid. Let it be a valuable lesson learned.

There is a chance (slim maybe) that the forms you fill in will go to HR and perhaps won't be seen by the person you spoke to about the job...Fingers crossed for you.

But take it as a lesson learned.
