Hi can anyone who has already started training with revenue for clerical officer positions let me know how it is going? I'm due to start next month and am a little apprehensive. It's seems like a lot of training for a junior position but I suppose the more training the better! Thanks

Don't worry about it Spud. Have been in 4 different departments and you will be looked after in Revenue. From my experience they provide the best training and are the most modern.

Some departments just Feck you in at the deep end and hope for the best. Very stressful on employees and customers.

    Best of luck!

Tons of training. Plenty of support while training.

I wish I was starting again myself so that I could get the benefit of this well-organised training and mentoring!

It's a lot of training because clerical officers who are working in the Taxes section of Revenue have to know a lot of facts to enable them to provide good customer service. It's not like some junior office clerk - it's not terribly difficult stuff to grasp, but there's a lot of info and one has to become familiar with the different computer systems.

All the training and knowledge you require to do the job will be given to you.

Thanks a million for your replies you have put me at ease. I'm looking forward to getting proper training, there are not many places that offer it. I'm really happy to have been given this chance.

One more quick question, we are not told where we will be based after training but in your experience do you think they will give us some kind of choice or place us in a location suitable to our address. I don't like saying it as a starter but I am already commuting and different areas in Dublin could extend this even more.

My guess would be that if someone was travelling from Co Kildare, it'd be unlikely that they'd be posted to a Dublin 15 office, or if someone was coming from Co Meath or north County Dublin, they wouldn't be posted to a Dublin 24 office. I'm sure efforts would be made to ensure that people are located in a Dublin office that's do-able for them. There are a few city centre locations that would have larger numbers of staff.

With a fair few new entrants coming from an extended period of training, it'd make sense to be reasonable about their final location.

GerbilGranny - I'd love to have you as a colleague - you're a rock of sense. Am awaiting a call-up, references have been checked and I'd love to get Revenue.

Hi I am starting next month aswell. :) I was wondering if you have any idea about the prospects of progressing in the civil service? I am currently employed in the private sector and as the starting wage is quite low for the clerical officer position I am not sure if it will be worthwhile.

Hi there. I am due to start in August and wanted to ask how you are finding the role? I'm not sure about it for a lot of the same reasons

I'm starting as a clerical officer with the Revenue next month, I have been told there is a lot of training so any info or helpful tips about training or how they placed people in specific departments is greatly appreciated! :) And how those of you that have started are finding the role?

    Hey,

I was offered a position in Revenue Cork starting in September. Curious to know how did your training go? Did it take 5 months...any exam after it? Also more importantly do you like the job?
