Blanchardstown non-existant on-ramp

The on-ramp marked by the big red arrow; why did they not do this, and instead do the current route?

Or, more to the point, why was the on-ramp marked by the red arrow ever considered, as it only gives traffic from one direction access to the motorway?

I came across the on-ramp when showing someone directions on Google maps.

They did do the circular on ramp, they also left the old one there too.

Hrm, okay. I'm wondering why did they start to build it, but not use it in the end?

I use that on ramp to the n3 everyday and have used it since it was opened in 2013 it's also on my garmin sat nav,I not sure when the google maps last took that photo but it was before it was finished.

It is used... Google satellite images aren't live, or even that new.

It is useful, insofar as it only involves left turns, thereby reducing the amount of traffic making right-turns.
