What all criteria do you need for the young farmers top?I know a few things
    - herd number must be in young farmers name or jointly with father
-must have name on main farm bank account
    - if young farmer has off farm job must earn less than 40k and have p60 from 2013or 2013
    - must be under 35 or 40?

Any know what else? Meeting teagasc advisor this week wouldn't mind having a head start for him???

Maybe look at stacking the old mans entitlements and applying on the national reserve. Have to be trained or apply for course before this september

    1. You need to have your qualification, which I'm guessing you do.
    2. You need to be under 40 on year of setup.
    3. There's no off farm income cap if you're just applying for the Young Farmers Top Up Scheme. It only applies to the National Reserve,

Have the green cert alright what's the difference in the national reserve and the top. We'll I know what the top is but unsure of the national reserve?

If you have no entitlements coming with the land, as a new entrant, you can get entitlements from the national reserve.

If you have entitlements, you don't really need to go near the national reserve.

The top up is 60-65 euroish per ha.

So... I can put my name in with Dad herd number and thereby avail of the top ups. (I am 36 with a green cert)

Is it as easy as that...?

I mean I will be farming with him but I'd only have 7 or 8 head of cattle out of the total herd of 80 or so.

There are definite questions around tax here. I am already paying top level of tax so need to ensure that any money got handy in top ups isn't fired away to the tax man.

If you have low entitlements you can apply to both the National Reserve and Young Farmers Top up.

It is more than just putting your name on the herd number.

You can be farming in partnership, but need to be in control of decision making.

When will the 25% top up be paid into the accounts for Young Trained farmers, if they applied for the top up?
