Ok so I just spilled some acetone nail varnish remover on my wooden table and by the time I got some tissue to remove it, the acetone had eaten away at the varnish and has now exposed pale matte wood. It looks awful and when my parents find out, I'm dead!
Is there anyway to fix this? Can I re varnish over the small area? I have attached a picture to this thread so you can see what I did. God I feel so stupid!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance

Come clean, you would have to sand down whole table and recoat or get a huge candle and stick it down permanent.

Oh no really? There's no way to just varnish over that little spot?

Don't panic I promise they won't kill you, might be mad for an hour or so but they'll get over it quickly.
The good news you can varnish over it. However it's not a quick fix job. Here's what you do. get some very fine sandpaper and sand the area including a couple of inches around the damages area. Clean with white spirits. lightly sand again. The more the sandpaper wears the better it gets for the finish coat.
Then get some stain that matches the table top colour. mix stain and white spirits 50/50 and apply to damaged area. next day lightly sand over and repeat process. Maybe even a 3rd coat until the colour is getting close to the table top colour.
Then finish off with one or two coats of full stain. Use the worn sandpaper to blend in the finish.
    Good luck with it.

Full sand down and recoat. Are ya off yer head ?

OP, you just want to conceal it. Its back to the wood in the damaged area that looks like its no bigger than a 10cent coin. Colour looks like mahogany. Get a small tin and dab with a small artist brush on the affected area. Won't be perfect but sure you can then play the fool, deny any involvement and hope that your parents don't come here looking for a fix :D

Ha I like your idea of playing the fool ;) I definitely feel like a fool! I've been doing crafts on the table and all I hear every time I'm in that room is "don't ruin the table!" Oops
    I'll definitely try your idea.
Thanks so much for your advice and you too sky6 :)
