Getting tax back from orthodontist

I am nearly finished paying off my braces (over €3500) and was under the impression that 20% of the total payment would be refunded to me as a tax refund. I work part-time, I'm a college student, so I don't fall into a "tax category" as such. The reason I'm posting this is because I recently heard from someone that in order to be eligible for a tax refund on my orthodontics, I have to be paying a certain amount of tax from working each year. Except because I only work weekends, I'm pretty sure I don't pay tax... Can anyone clear this up for me???

There is no tax refund, there is tax relief. Thus if you don't pay any tax then tax relief is not much use to you => no "refund".

However, if your working parent (for example) was to pay for the treatment, then the relief might be of use to them...
