    Thanks in advance

Call into halfords they will make you up one. They might ask u for your log book as proof the car is yours. I think the prices start at €10

You can buy them online too and have them posted.

Never once been asked for a log book
They do them in most motor factors aswell OP

What car is it? Go for the "jdm yo" style of putting the numberplate in the front window LOL

As said - any local motor factors or Halfords.

In the UK you have to provide the VLC and proof of ID (driving licence/passport) so it would not surprise me if Halfords standard training included some level of anti fraud measure.

Absolutely pointless introducing any level of anti fraus measure if other places don't.
Those who need a plate for fraud reasons, will buy it somewhere else than halfords.

Well this isn't the UK thankfully :)

THe point I was making is that Hlfords may be cutting costs by using the same training manuals as their UK stores; not that they have unilaterally decided to introduce anti fraud measures.

Surprised you're that sanguine - it's a fairly basic antifraud measure with increasing use of ANPR etc. I'd be surprised if cloning didn't become a bigger issue here.

Hi the_fever autocare or as said most motor factors will do these.

There is 1 in Rathnew and in ballywaltrim in bray.

They will give you the screws or do what I do and get double sided sticky tape off them and no need for drilling just line up and stick on.

    They will be well secure.

You can get them in Halfords but they ask for the log book. You can get them here http://www.jsautopart.com/ without the logbook and nice people to deal with into the bargain.

I've gotten plates a few times there and always needed the vrc/vlc.
I registered a new car manually, and wanted to drop the car off at the buyers house as is was near the vro, halfords wouldn't print plates even though I had the revenue documents etc ready for them.

I'd imagine they have standard pricedures for everything and that's the reason.

Shur they sell GB stickers and yellow number plate screw covers!

    Me either.
AFAIK in many countries on the Continent number plates are treated as a document, and they are issued only by official authorities.
F.e. in Poland if I got to register my car, I'd get a set of plates in the city council office there. They would also put authenticy stickers on them.
It would be illegal to use any other plates than those.

Yes but not here. Halfords ask for log book as stated but i cant tell why as there is hardly likely to be any comeback from authorities if cloned plates were used that they created. I presume its because they are british and its a policy over there - i note also they only sell spray cans of paint to over 16 year olds - again a UK thing to combat graffiti - not an Irish law as far as i know.

IN the UK, you need a licence to produce number plates and are subject to ID checking and record keeping requirements. It's needed to backstop ANPR usage. remember that, amongst other things, UK insurance and tax cannot be checked by looking at little pieces of paper on the windscreen - it's ll computerised now.

Funny that such a big store network as halfords didn't adjust their policies when entering Irish market.
Most funny are those GB stickers and yellow numberplate screw caps they sell here which someone mentioned above. Entertaining ;)

Can you not just show them the reg plate that's still on the back of your car instead of a logbook?

    No. Believe me I've tried.
Anyway, that's the policy they have.

Probably why his number plate fell off in the first place.

    http://www.micksgarage.com/towing/registration-plates/

    €6.95 per plate.
...would seem to be the cheapest in Ireland. As long as you can buy some other stuff you need to reach the magic €30 mark to avail of free postage.

How much is the postage if you don't reach €30?

Don't forget to inform the Gardai. Better have a report in case someone finds it and sticks it on their car.

The tape I havemy plates on with holds them on so good if you try to peel them off the plates shatter.

Have seen plenty screwed on go flying off as with vibrations and that.

Mine are taped on 2 years, no sign of coming off,

Great idea, but it will probably get annoying for the op when he starts getting pulled on suspicion of having false plates.

I'm finding it so difficult to take off my front reg plate, stuck on with tape, as they won't pass the NCT. I'm surprised I haven't shattered it by now, won't budge an inch. Tried dental floss, bur no joy. I'll have another bash at the weekend.

Use double sided tape, gives a clean finish and looks far better then 2 ugly screw heads or caps. I've seen 4 screws on the one plate on occasion.

try a hacksaw, blade down behind.

If you still can't get it off get new plates and stick over old if needs doing quick and then go back at them.

Just normal double sided tape keeps it on?

I use velcro to put plates on, back in the day when german plates were somewhat cool it was handy for NCTs etc.

You use a foam tape, gives a bit of flexibility.

My reg plates were stolen off my car a couple of years ago & obv rang the Gardai about it. They did say that it's good practice if you lose one etc to let them know. They won't be pulling you over coz a quick check on their system will let them know the make, model & colour of the car that reg should be on.

I got the sticker things on mine & ended up having to have the front reg plate screwed in about 3 weeks later as it just fell off outside my home so wouldn't go with that.

Halfords do ask for proof of the reg but in fairness, I was getting 2 new plates. Sure what's the problem if they do - they just copy the reg from that to make sure it's completely accurate. Was about €30 including them sticking them on for me.

I use the exact stuff colm showed above. I use 2 strips of it along the plate. 7.50 for a roll 5 metres x 25mm

They'll have a record of the OP reporting the lost plate so if someone uses it for illegal activities at a later date the OP will have less explaining to do.
