wondering how i can tell what engine code this car is , as i want to look at cleaning the throttle body and EGR valve

but i cant confirm if its a cable manual or full electronic throttle ?

ive tried the vag option codes on the sticker in the boot , but cant seem to find the engine option .

** reason , the car idles quite low
sometimes just idles down a stall , tends to rev up and down on its own for a little while on idle
and it struggles to accelerate a little on take off , needs a bit foot down these days

    Just looking here: http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/topic/87532-8l-a3-idle-problem/

Someone tried cleaning the TB but it was still the same after. That would work if the trottle was sticking (revs taking longer to come down). Some suggest disconnecting the MAF, but I don't see the point with that has it's only an air metre.

I would check the vacuum hose's for splitting. Check google images for their location or a haynes manual.

i must say alot of this seems to have started since i had alternator and battery issues where the car lost electrics 3 times or so .

the car is usually ok once it has warmed up a bit .

i did a reset of the car ECU , and a TB reset and it seems alot better ,
will see in the morning but it idled fine and drives better now

apparently ( not usre how true this is )
older cars memorise throttle / fuel feed parameters as they get older to maintain good engine behaviour ,
( say due to an aging throttle )
but if the battery is replaced you lose these adjustments and it goes basic settings which may not suit the older car anymore
, you have to reset the car , either using PC , or by turning key on and waiting for it to readjust.

the procedure i used was this :

    1. remove negative lead for about 20mins and replace
    2. Turn ignition to to first position and leave for 5 mins
    3. start car and let idle for 5 mins
    4. restart car and go for a drive

    so fingers crossed .
