What would 300kg heifer. BBX out of a fr, be worth? Plain enough, one bucket fed. May be more suitable for cows than fattening. I'll post pics if I can?

First heifer is a nicer animal, good shape. 750 id be saying but u could ask 800 u would probably get someone who would give that

Can't see much of the second heifer, she seems be more dairy type. Her coloring isn't as nice either. I'd be saying 650 maybe but can't see enough of her to say for sure

Mart be different story, all depends on who takes a liking to them

Both May born. Are u saying the white one is shapier? The blue one was suckled. Is 700 achievable? When buying BBX is colour or shape better. I agreethe white one is shapier but thought the colour would put buyers off.

Agree with J, although the colour shouldn't matter it does to some. The flecky blue through white will always sell better than a blotchy one.

That being said, the white looks a nicer style of animal too, better back end & shoulder.

Tks lads. Thought the white one, because of colour would not achieve much. Grass tight but didn't fancy housing them but if I was to keep untill oct-nov, would they make closer to 900 assuming they put on another 200kg

White one looks as if she is 30-50 kgs heavier than the darker one. All depends on what weight you put on grass between now and October. If they put on 200 kgs they be around 500kgs. I expect that they would average over 2/kg at that weight

Cattle will be scarse all this year. I am hearing stories of low numbers at marts at present. If You can hold them I would. Not sure if they would sell beyond 700 at present, BB are not great sellers in general.

Is there any reasons for this? Any idea how far numbers are back?

On the thread the first animal looks away better quality.

How far will numbers be back. We should know in nextt months as Dept will publish stock numbers in different age groups. It was projected last year that there wpould be 100K less this year. However last year kill was 50K higher than it should be. Part of this was reduction of exports of finished and forward store to NI. However we could see 130K less cattle than last year.

Reason for reduction in numbers. Poor spring in 2013 saw a large no of cattle deaths in spring. We also saw an increase in calf exports that spring and a big increase in weanling exports compared to 2012. Due to very good summer last year a lot of young cattle were killed off grass or are being killed out of the shed at present.

Got offered 640 for white one locally. Should I push for more. I won't see a mart until Feb.

Asking the wrong man here I only see a mart once a year to sell bullocks in november. It seems cheap. Check out farmers forum to get prices in your area. Factor in transport and a day in the mart and the pain in the ass of that.

Make sure money its your account if doing deal before handing over cards.

I be slow to sell her for that. she is the better of the two. I be trying to sell both as a job lot if you got 670 for both togeather in the yard it equivlent to 700 in the mart. Sonthing in it for next lad as well. However they look to have a good pick at present I be giving them 2 kgs of barley and try to hold until March after that grass will make a job of them.

They have still a bit to pick still but Quality not great now. But have access with two others to a bale of Haylage. Getting 1kg of meal. I'll think I'll keep until Oct. Not far to march now. Id hope to get closer to the 1k mark then. The Blue one by yere opinions will prob go bit less.

    Thanks for advice.
