    Hopefully the tie won't be effectively over before the second leg. I think we'll put in a decent display though. 1-1 I reckon.

    City is the main attraction in 2weeks. Id love to get to a cup final though would be brilliant.

    We'll be switching up the teams for the next 3 games, 2 x liverpool and bradford so its going to be a difficult 2weeks for the squad.

    Yes, but ye have got at least 20 players who are proper first XI quality and won't appreciably weaken the team, Liverpool don't.

    Think Mourinho wants to win the League Cup, it was an excellent stepping stone to success in the first season.

    I assume Costa will start v Liverpool. Maybe he'll get a rest in the FA cup

    Why would you think that. There is no one in better form than Liverpool.

    I'd expect both teams will be almost full strength

    Chelsea to progress comfortably over the 2 legs. Can't see it any other way.

    I hope you are taking the piss. In the last 8 games that we are unbeaten in we've played 2 lower league teams, 4 teams from the bottom 8 in the PL, and Swansea and Arsenal at home.

    I don't think Chelsea will be quaking in their boots.

    Seems Mourinho has told the Chelsea fans to stop the Steve Gerrard chant. Said he deserves more respect.

    Doubt they'll listen.

    Sturridge to come off the bench and give Liverpool a lifeline 2-1 to Chelsea

    Away goal rule in place for these games?

    More likely he'll now be orchestrating the chant from the technical area.

    I never said they would be. I responded to your comment where you think Chelsea will show up to anfield and hammer liverpool. Liverpool are in good form was my point and I think Chelsea know they will be in a game.

    Rules:

    - if tie is level at end of 180mins irrespective of away goals then regular extra time is played;
    - at the end of the extra time period away goals are considered if teams remain level;
    - only if teams are level on a consideration of away goals at that point will a penalty shootout be used to determine the winner;

    I've always found it uneccesarily convoluted tbh.

    Yeah, either play away goals rule as per European ties or don't play them at all.

    It basically gives the team playing away 2nd leg a potential advantage.

    What was the reasoning behind this way of away goals rule I wonder?

    Read my post again ffs. I said I think we'll put in a decent display and get a draw. Chelsea COULD turn up and win something like 2-0 though to put the game effectively beyond us. Do you think that's an outlandishly unlikely scenario? I think there is a reasonable chance of it. If we lose by more than 1 goal the tie is as good as done with less than a 5% chance of us overturning it imo.

    Either team could win the game, but Chelsea are rightly favourites over the 2 legs, possibly even favourites in the first leg alone. Stop saying that I said something I clearly didn't.

    Is Gerard injured?

    Anyway I can't see Rodgers playing him against Chelsea, if Gerard is fit he'll most likely play against Bolton.

    Football reasons and politically it would be career suicide for Rodgers to play him, unless of course he does play and Gerard scores.

    Why do you say the advantage is on the team playing away 2nd leg? I would have though playing the extra 30mins and possibly pens at home would be an advantage, playing 120mins on you home pitch rather than 90.

    I always prefer going away first leg, regardless of what the extra time rules are

    Id happily roll over and send out kids for both legs if it meant beating city in 2weeks time.

    Hopefully a win for rodgerspool after invoking the spirit of a Pochitino/Pardew master class.

    Can see Chelsea going all out though, Mourinho needs a trophy this season or he's under pressure.

    OK, I'll play.

    Why do you think it'd be career suicide to play Gerrard? Is it because you think Gerrard isn't good enough any more wherever he plays or some other reason? If you think he is better than other options Liverpool have then given you think that Rodgers needs to win this cup surely it'd stand that it's more career suicidey to not play him if fit?

    I'm assuming it's because you think he's past it, which is not that unreasonable, but I'd like to know if that's actually the case or not.

    I'm afraid I haven't seen Saw. Hmm, that sounds like a grammatically incorrect sentence, but the capitalisation helps at least. In a related segue, hopefully the game tomorrow night won't be a horror show for the home team. I do could with some blue blood being spilled though.

    No I still think Gerard is better than a lot of the pool players but results and performances have been a lot better without him, play Gerard and lose the fans will be all over Rodgers and pool have some tricky fixtures coming up too so the pressure could be mounting.

    If we lose with Gerrard on the bench there will be a lot more criticism, believe you me.

    If Rodgers plays Gerrard deep then the fans will criticise that decision whether we win or lose. If he plays him in an attacking role then whatever the result he won't be particularly criticised for that. He has played more in an advanced role than a deep one lately by the way.

    play him in the hoe behind the striker. other than that he doesn't play.
    I would play him though and where there was an element of him minding himself /legs were gone he will now be going out al guns balzing as it his best chance of silverware this year.

    I didnt see the 1st half of our win over Swansea, I'll miss the whole of this game, therefore, it stands to reason that we'll be 4-0 by half time.

    I just responded to the fact you said I hope the game isn't over after the first leg. Liverpool are in good form despite who they have played. Other teams have struggled at villa and Sunderland. Utd should have been beaten there few weeks back. I never said Chelsea would fear liverpool but there is no reason why liverpool can't beat Chelsea. No need to get worked up we are all fighting the same fight.

    Because they always are.

    The 2nd and 3rd round were always 2 legs as well until about 10 years ago or so.

    after that game last year and the songs that will be sung,there is nobody who will want to beat chelsea tomorrow more than stevie..if he is fit he will play ,if he is half fit he should still be on bench at minimum,may never play them again

    Man, what a change a few months makes. At the end of last season I was quite confident going into the game against Chelsea. I would pull your hand off for a draw now. Although It'd be much better if the second leg was at Anfield.

    If Chelsea show up wanting this it could get heavy for Liverpool, Liverpool have got some form going but still poor enough.

    Chelsea 3-1 on the night

    Not at anfield. Didn't they show up earlier in the season and were very lucky to win. They were excellent on the day. Liverpool will beat Chelsea tommorrow night.
