So thought it might be an interesting thread.

In 2015, excluding upgrades, mods and regular services/service items and fuel, what has your cars cost you so far.

Please state what your car is and year in your post.

2002 corolla, so far a tube of tiger seal to try fix a leak, 14 euro.

    2007 golf tdi

So far this year I had to replace one of the number plate light housings. As the previous owner broke the retaining clips while removing it and glued it back in place so once I took it out to replace the bulb it wouldn't stay up in the bumper and I wasn't going glue it back as that's just rough. So 14.50 euro for the replacement.

    BMW 740Li

16 days in and motor tax has cost me €79.29.
    Insurance has cost €46.08.
    About €120 in fuel.
    Screenwash €5.00.

    Total cost €250.37

I'd say I've driven 350 miles. Also sprung a coolant leak as of this evening so parts bill on the way soon.

    I hate these threads.

Prob spent north of €7000 last year.

Ugh too much. I think people don't understand the cost of running cars! It's all well and good when you're 17 and think that the car runs on air and the engine is made of everything-resistant material.

Nothing so far this year but last year, off the top of my head:

Brake pads + Coil yokey + labour - 120 (it think)
    NCT - 55
    Tax - 385
    Insurance - 770
    2 new tyres - 120
    Oil/filter - 50
    Power steering cable - 30 (i think)
    Total= 1,530 euro

Oh yeah, forgot about petrol. So about 70euro every 2 weeks

I'm pretty sure there was 1 or 2 other things aswell :/

Apart from tax, nothing so far as I've not been driving it with the tax out (way too many checkpoints that I hit) as is the NCT

    Due:
    New backbox - 145
Get rid of airbag fault light - 100 or so
NCT 77 (cancelled the last one)
Probably two new tyres - unknown - 200?

    Audi A5

14 euro outside of normal running costs for a door lock cable that I hope will cure a recent fault with drivers door. Its either that or the lock for 140 quid. Will soon know.

Edit: last year - camshaft position sensor and ride height sensors replaced for about 80 quid total.

    Do I have to?

Buying the car: just over 1k.

Fixing the car: just under 1k.

    Tax: just over 1k.

    Insurance: half that.

Fuel: lots (done a lot of mileage though).

Planned: another 1.5k spend on suspension & upgrades.

Edit: misread thread... if we're talking 2015 only, all in it's cost me €55 of fuel so far, everything above was before the year turned.

    New battery 90 euro
    Hole in exhaust 100 euro

I use the android app Fuel Costs to track all vehicle costs. Last year (from I changed in April) I spent 6061. That includes estimated depreciation (2000 - using a 5 year write down from 10000), 854 on tax, 1011on insurance, 190 for space saver spare that it came without, 360 on main dealer service (includes a xenon), 1450 on fuel and 300 on two tyres yesrerday (technically this year).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,361 ✭✭✭Boskowski

€400 for a new starter motor. Could have been so much worse as the original (quick) diagnosis before they actually went at it was gearbox. There is going to be another couple of hundred soon for an electric problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭advertsfox

2014 - Avensis 07 1.8 was purchased, free interim service so just petrol.

    2015 - €2 on a 7.5A fuse and petrol so far.

NCT next week and service due in 3000KM with tyres eventually required (going to keep the same Bridgestone Turanzas it came with) and brake discs / pads so ask me again in 3-4 months (est. €750).

Is last year ok? :) Like many here, a part of me I've always wanted to know how much it actually costs to run a car. (Another part, the bigger part, was afraid to know!).

Last year I decided to over come my fear and finally find out. So for the past 12 months I've religiously tracked all expenses, including fuel, on a modest band A3 car.

    Item Cost Comment
    Fuel 1465 16k KM
    Tax 190 Band A3
    Tolls 60
    Insurance 520
    Annual Service 300
    Tyres 300

Monthly Cost 219.58 Assuming 36 months for tyres

Depreciation is of course the missing element, but that cost will be dictated by a future price, when the car is sold (of which there are no immediate plans), and as you cannot research the future, I've excluded it for now.

So far this year... nothing! :)

Jobs to be done.. need another BBS alloy for the spare, thinking about getting the rear half of the car tinted, OEM Bluetooth would be nice but I don't know who'd take that on if I sourced the parts.

Nothing so far, only bought recently, first Diesel car I have bought, and loving the milage. Hearing people talking about DPF's and servicing, haven't really looked into it yet, hope it won't be expensive.

17 days into the year and my car has cost me:

    My youth.
    My patience.
    My dignity.
    My positive outlook on life.
    My flathead screwdriver.

92 CRX. Still wouldn't dream of changing it.

Shouldn't pose as much of a problem if you are doing the miles for a diesel. Short trips only clog up these filters, not giving the car a chance to become efficient.

96 e36 323i. Approx 1400euro in 2014. Failed nct - needed 2 lamda sensors and front dampers & labour. Also did 2 services myself but the oil and filters are about 90eu per service. Engine has 211k miles on it and runs great but I'm starting to loose a cup full of coolant a week. Looks like I've a small weep at one of the gaskets.

Provided you are doing the correct driving to suit the diesel I.e. Plenty of long trips then you will have no dpf issues well not until the mileage gets very high anyway. If you bought it to tip around town and do 100 km a week of all short trips then you could well have dpf issues but then that's not the cars fault that your not using it for the correct purpose.

If you are doing the mileage to burn it off it's fine. The previous owner was only using it for shop runs. Knew that when I bought it though. It's around 1300 for a new one. Just to be safe you should drive in 3rd or 4th for a few miles every couple weeks or so.

Bought my car for €900 August 2013, sat in my garden unused since then, bar the odd spin to keep her moving.
Spent zero on it and now it's worth about €1500.

So my car has earned me €600 in assets, not bad. :)
