Cripples

What do you do when you're walking in a corridor and get stuck behind a slow cripple? I want to try overtake but with the swaying and crutches going all over the place it's hard to get by.

Is it socially acceptable to forcefully overtake a cripple? Does one simply have to slow down and go at thier pace?

Usually kick the crutch from underneath them, they go down like a sack of spuds

It's probably a lot more socially acceptable than calling them a "cripple".

Cripple is that word still used in this day and age ??

Just knock them to the ground they have no right to be there in the first place. Shouldn't be let out

Cripple must be 30 years since I heard that horrible word

The term cripple is fine, I qualify for it. In terms of overtaking, if it's to skip me in a queue, that's rude and I will hurt you. I do have a weapon after all.

(If I notice someone coming up behind in other circumstances, I'll normally invite them to pass)

I found people were very good with me when I was operating on crutches after a leg break, really going out of their way to make sure I was all right trying to get around the campus.

So I'd do the same if I encountered a cripple in a public environment.

You wait politely and walk slowly behind them.

Alternatively you could shove past them and end up with a crutch as an extra appendage.

(Don't like the word cripple either)

That's an awkward situation indeed. It's like when you meet an ignorant fool and you're not sure whether or not you should converse with them.

Cripples should be sent off to the camps. They are not compatible with the ideal Nazi society therefore their unhealthy genes should be removed from the breeding pool.(I jest of course)

Once read a story that Ian Dury (who was left on crutches after polio as a kid) was drunk and insulted Omar Sharif, who punched him and one of Ian's friend's had to jump in and stop it, pleading "Leave it out, Omar, e’s a raspberry.’*

    * Raspberry Ripple = Cripple

Haven't thought of that for years.

    What would non Dubs say?

"Acchh, me matey! Lay down your scimitars ye wee foreign devils. I must transverse the area"

All non Dubs are Scottishy pirates that view people on crutches as middle eastern fellows carrying swords.

But you know this, TBL. Which makes your question redundant, no? Just want it stated for the record? Or what's your angle?

    What would non Dubs say?

Steer one-eight-five, ahead flank. Level off at one hundred meters. Prepare tubes one and two. I want radio silence gentlemen, and I mean it.

You need to synch-up. Wait till the left crutch is just dropping back, then do a hip-sway past, swooping by as the crutch skims your Fast-walkin as5. It's the cripple-sway, you need to get in tune with it.

You know OP, with life & aging, there's a good chance you'll end up on crutches yourself one day. And when that happens, you'll look back upon this thread and just cringe.

Is there anything to be said for a swift kick up the arse? Not for the 'cripple', for the OP.

So I'd do the same if I encountered a cripple in a public environment.

Same here spent four and a half months on crutches and walking sticks with a knee injury and apart from boisterous out of control kids in public places people tended to make an effort not to obstruct me and those I worked with to make sure I was ok to get around.

Ah no, you don't want the crutchee to end up on their ass, far more effective to give them a good wallop with a crutch, using the other for balance :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,462 ✭✭✭✭WoollyRedHat

If you were to confront them, hopefully it would result in you getting the crutch lodged up your arse, then you too would walk slow, problemo solved.

    Otherwise use the vents.

Make it quick because I'd be aligned my boot for the follow up.

**** that ****, if the cripple is that slow he should have consideration for others and get out of the way
