Car Options for £12k - Based in the UK

Unfortunately my own car of over 7 years was involved in an accident a few days ago other party claiming full liability and thankfully I am uninjured. Minor enough damage but the car is 12 years old so there is a real possibility that the insurance company will write it off an I will be in the market for another car. Currently waiting on an assessor to get back to me.

As I'm based in the UK I don't have VRT to worry about. I'm looking for suggestions on what I could possibly get for my budget of 12k GBP. I only do around 220 miles a week so I am open to petrol options (petrol is cheaper than diesel in the UK). Insurance isn't too much of an issue (10 years no claims) and I have no kids. As I probably wont have a trade in I should be able to negotiate and the Reg plate changes here in April for more leverage.

    Requirements:
    • Leather
    • Parking sensors
    • Xenons
    • Approx 5-6 years old max
    • Less than 60K on the clock
    • I like my gadgets :)

You probably need to narrow down the type of cars that you are interested in and what sort of running costs you are prepared to pay otherwise you might get recommended anything from a Range Rover to an Octavia.

    Thats half of the problem!

I wouldn't purchase a Range Rover as I have no real work for it and would rather have more speed than space. Ive put together a list which is very wide ranging:

Skoda Octavia VRS (dont particularly like the styling)
Skoda Superb Estate 170bhp (dont think I need that much space + the price of them seems to be getting nearer Audi money)
Audi TT 170bhp Diesel - Perhaps too small
Passat CC 170bhp 2.0 TDI - Already have had a Passat want a change
Audi A6 Le Mans 170bhp - Possible Contender
BMW 525d Estate F10 Shape (lots of toys, estate looks better than the saloon, would be looking to buy from classifieds to get more bang for my buck).
    A3 S3 - Wouldnt rule it out
BMW 3 Series coupe/saloon or estate.

At the moment the BMW 5 series provided I can find a clean one within my budget seems to be taking my fancy

Would you get an F10 525d for 12k?

I would be looking at something 2008 (for the lower tax of course) and something along the lines of 535d or 335d, heck I wouldn't be looking for anything else tbh.
