This might sound like a silly question but I'll go anyway.

We have concrete floor slabs on the first floor and was just wondering how the electrician tracks for the lighting etc, do we have to put in a bit of a ceiling to carry the wires or can we track into the slab - sorry again if stupid question.

Typically suspended plasterboard ceiling. 'track' : if you mean 'chase' - you will not be chasing the precast slabs.

Yea that's what I thought, have looked at plans drawn up by our architect and no mention of such a suspended ceilings.

Would you have any idea of depth the ceiling - we have 9ft between floor level and slab - just worried it's going to eat into room size

When finished you will lose at least 6 or 7 inches off that

That's if you are going with mhrv and plumbing services within same

...in other words, if just laying on lights, a 2"x1" batten with plasterboard screwed to same will lose you an inch and a half with plenty for wiring.

    2 options...

Electrician hammer fixes clips to the slab and his wires are held this way.

Metal Framed Ceiling is installed and electrician attaches wires to the ceiling grid (benefit of being able to position lights in relation to their position in the room).

If you have no plumbing/hrv to the underside of your hollowcore then a suspended ceiling can be dropped at a depth of approx 85mm.

Hollowcore can be battened however the chances of getting it level are nigh on impossible due to the camber in the slabs and the steps at each joint of the hollowcore.

..won't you have to put in suspended ceiling anyway - I though all precast floor slabs were cambered ??

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    they are.....

a metal rail suspended ceiling is the best option here.
locate the electrics in conduits and photograph everything in case you need to augment in the future
