So got a quote off a company today about installing a stove for my uncle. It was for about €4600. Stove was about €1300 of this. Then a hearth was needed and approx 2 metres or so of flue, liner, 2 x 45 degree angles etc. The flue isn't even going up a chimney. How do they really set their prices because over €3000 euro on installation alone seems a big gigantic rip off!!!!

Getting another company in with a stove of my uncles choice to give him a quote.

It all depends on the location of the stove and the fact if it's linked into your existing heating.
If it is then you need a pump , a thermostat and the likes so that's why you would get quoted so much .

It's just the stove on its very own. It is not being linked to any heating or appliances whatsoever. It will be located underneath a window (No window in it now, just a hole in the wall) with a flue going out the window and running 1.5metres up the side of the building.

I would get another quote , my mother paid 4300 for a stove that was fully linked in to the heating. Her stove was made by boru and is rated for 17 radiators.

Your flue should be at least 4m high. I can't see it working properly if it's only 1.5.

That's the measurement we were quoted 1.5 metres from the opening to above gutter. It's running along side the stone wall and not going through a chimney.

It will also need to clear the Wall otherwise you will have issues with Blowbacks, smoke in the room etc.

If the stove is freestanding and the flue is running outside then it must be twin wall flue and the flue height should be a min of 5mtrs if this is the case the price isn't seriously overpriced as the flue alone could be in excess of €1000.
Very hard to give a definitive answer with out been able to see it.
It would be no harm to get another quote to erasure yourself but in these cases the stove itself is the cheapest purchase

This the pretty much the exact set up here that I need in the videohttp://www.bpmsupplies.ie/straighttwinwall.html
Probably be getting the stove from the same place with the materials needed. Yes it will work out expensive enough, more than the price of the stove obviously but still nowhere near €4600

As I said the flue costs around €1000 then fitting I agree €2k is rough for fitting but get another price.
Just make sure it's been fitted to regs and the fitters are fully insured and know what they're doing.
I've come across so many that have been fitted wrong by so called fitters.

Get a 2nd and a 3rd quote - and find out what exactly they're quoting for - amount and type of flue-

Give Fordes in Kilcock (Forde Furniture Superstore) a ring, good lads will give you a good honest quote.
