best router/repeater for extending wi-fi ?

looking to pick one up on the cheap even second hand, just to boost the wifi upstairs in the house. I have a D-Link DIR655 - but there is no bridge mode on that particular router. I want to keep the network name the same to avoid having to switch.....any suggestions?
