Moving from Eircom to Sky

    I am sick of how little Eircom is prepared to do for those of us out in the sticks, so I moving to another provider. I realise that this won't improve my first-hop connectivity, but at least I won't be paying exorbitant fees to a provider that just doesn't give a sh!t, and the long-standing issue with the London core-router might also go away.

    So, has anyone else moved from Eircom to Sky? What have your experiences been? Line prequal shows that I can expect 4.1 Mb/s, which is roughly what I am getting from Eircom.

    How are 'peak time' speeds? Are transatlantic sites reasonably fast in the evenings?

    I've never been with Sky but jca a regular on here had terrible trouble after 11pm with them.

    Eircom wholesale are the ones that provide the infrastructure and whether you subscribe to eircom retail or sky they get paid the same line rental and dsl fees, so you aren't hurting them at all.

    I'm currently with sky and I have to say their service is good for me . I live about 1km from the exchange and have never had any drops in connectivity .
    Sometimes it would be slow but that can happen . The last call I made to their customer support I couldn't get a connection and they fixed it within minutes for me . They got me to take my face plate off the phone connection and that fixed my problem that I couldn't get a connection at all .
