Eircom F1000 modem: USB File Share very slow?

    Hi folks,

I recently had eFibre installed in Dundrum (Dublin) and the broadband is pretty good so far (95Mbps down; 19.95Mbps up).

I've found the modem's USB File sharing capability unusably slow though, and wondering if anyone else has found the same?

I've mapped the USB share as a drive in Windows, and copying a 159MB file from my PC via wired connection to the share currently takes 2minutes 33seconds (that's about 8Mbps).

I've updated to the latest firmware (100AAHA4b2) and it's not an issue with the wired connect (see bitrates above) or the USB key (same file takes 30 seconds to copy across when directly connected).

Any ideas? Anybody noticed similar performance issues?

Is the USB formatted to NTFS? I've found routers can struggle with the overhead involved in NTFS and reduce I/O. Try Fat32 if it is ntfs (backup all data first!!).

Thanks for the reply - I thought of that alright, tried out FAT, FAT32 and NTFS but none of them were much faster than the figures above.

Unlock your F1000, flash latest firmware and it will serve media n ftp just fine. There have been about 100 bug fixes by zyxel since Eircoms firmware was built. The change log is linked in the unlock your F1000 thread. I cannot post links myself.
