Preventing Cystitis

    Hi Ladies

Not looking for medical advice just for some personal experience.
So as the title suggests I have a big problem with recurring cystitis :/ I am in a relatively new relationship which is long distance. As you can imagine we enjoy our time together but by the end of it I have terrible cystitis which seriously kills the mood! I've tried the usual hygiene and peeling after sex but I always end up having to take antibiotics/cystapruine.
Im seeing my boyfriend next week and I'm just wondering do you gals have any tips on how to prevent this even happening? I'd love to be able to prevent than have to treat. Thanks in advance!

I was often prone until my gynae gp told me how to do a double void pee: go to the loo as normal, but after, wait and squeeze out a few more drops. That fully empties the bladder making it harder for the bacteria that cause cystitis to multiply. Now I rarely get it.
Drinking lots of water helps too, as can cranberry juice.

Use lube, wear cotton non-thong underwear, wipe correctly front to back and pee after sex.

For me this is critical. I found out I was not drinking enough to flush everything through. Now that I drink a ton of water I never get them anymore.

I also find drinking a lot, and using a delicate shower gel for down there as well.

Some foods can provoke it for me - I don't drink a lot of fizzy drinks as that seems to trigger it for me.

As others have said, lots of water, cranberry juice and gentle feminine hygiene products. I was getting recurring bouts and the nurse at my GP practice recommended a new supplement for cystitis. I haven't had a chance to get it and for the life of me can't remember the name. It begins with a C and is available over the counter in chemists. It's specifically designed for cystitis and urinary tract problems.

I would advise using nothing but water to wash down there. I have done this, and only one bout of thrush since. (I know not the same as cystitis) my doctor basically said that all of he femfresh products were a marketing ploy.

My mother always told me to never use any soap down there. There's never a smell and the only time I get thrush is after a course of antibiotics. Why do you ladies use one? Just curious!

As for cystitis, my sister found dairy a killer for it so she switched to soya and hasn't had a bout since and that was about a decade ago that she made that change. If you have it, I find drinking a teaspoon of bread soda dissolved in warm twice a day as necessary water flushes it out very quickly. I've never had to take it longer than a day or so, works like a dream!

I was recommended obtibac probiotic feminine which is also over the counter and aimed at cystitis. I haven't tried it myself I'd be interested in hearing if anyone had. Think I will pick up a box and give them a try. I wonder what the product was that you were recommended, I'm sure they probably all do the same thing?

I'm now thinking the C might go been cystapruine?

I suffered a lot with recurring from the time I met my (now) husband.

GP advised to wash before and after sex, double void pee, pee and drink water before sex, pee after sex, cotton underwear etc...

None of the above really made much difference until I started drinking cranberry juice. That completely stopped it. But its very sugary and sweet and I hated drinking it so I started getting cranberry tablets in the health food shop (there are lots of different brands). Now I only get cystitis if I forget to take my cranberry tablets for a long period of time.
