Hi, im trying to sell my car that has been off the road for well over a year,
    its a 2005 mg zs 1.8
no tax or nct (too expensive for me at the moment)
I priced it really low to sell as I know it needs a little work
all im getting is silly offers...
would i be better off scrapping it?

No,sell it as you'll get more money than its scrap value.

What work does it need done? HG? With no tax or test and work needed then someone is not really going to pay much for it.

head is upgraded, timing belt and water pump done, needs a few tyres, exhaust manifold gasket and a look on the central locking... bumpers need to be fixed too,
    time to scrap?

first time i've seen someone scrap a car because it needed tyres.

jaysus, stick 4 part worns on it (you'd get 4 for €100 ish), get the exhaust gasket repaired (say €100 again) and the bumpers aren't really stopping it from driving.

give it a good wash and a clean and it should sell, maybe ask €1250-1500 if it's got NCT.

that cars biggest stumbling block is the 1.8... people just aren't interested in that "big" a petrol engine, i'd say that's what's holding back your sale.

where in the country is the car? kinda interested myself :pac:

Its an 05 car with nothing major wrong. Has to be worth a few quid to the right person

ahh it needs more than a few tyres , its in dublin, I cant afford the repairs myself its on adverts .... just search mg zs on it , its the grey one

Looking at your ad on Adverts all offers have been well over twice the Scrap Value. Take €400/500 and don't buy another one.....;)

edit; Sorry...apart from the offer from the crowd who 'pay cash for all vehicles'. And can't even spell vehicles

This leads me to believe you've had a coolant leak, usually they go undetected at the manifold until it's too late.

IGNORE THE ABOVE, I had a BRAIN FART.

    that's the intake manifold.

    that's the intake manifold.
    My bad, idiot moment.

OP I note you have had contact from a guy called Ryan. If I'm not mistaken he is a good egg who really likes his MGs. If it is the guy I'm thinking off he would be serious about buying it.

    unfortunately not.

don't get me wrong they are a super looking car, very well spec'd and even nice to drive.

but the unfortunate reality is that rovers don't really hold much in the way of residual value. that coupled with the fact that the only brand that the irish fear stigmatise more than fiat is mg-rover. one other thing the average irish buyer doesn't like is a petrol engine greater than 1.4 in size.

those facts combined with your rough bodywork and lack of NCT means your car is worth the square root of **** all. which is sad, because the facelift ZS is a great car! you can bet your bonnet that in 20-30 years time they will be very collectable and very scarce.

i'd stick to advertising it at €700, take anything over €500.

If I was interested, I'd be on the lines of offering 5-600.nothing majorly wrong with.might make a good project. maybe a cheap starter for summer fun in mondello?
That seems to be where a lot of cars with good blocks/potential are going

Not without an NCT, and the bodywork issues, and the manifold work, and the central locking, mileage isn't great either.
I'm really not knocking it. Just pointing out what it's worth nowadays. Also there is a fairly limited supply of (modern) MG Fans in Ireland, most people just see it as a Rover with a Head Gasket about to blow.....

yeah, he had a look at the car, wants it cheaper than I wanted to sell for...he seems pretty genuine

OP, he is your best bet. I've dealt with him before.

I love those ZS's. I'm pretty sure that car came out of K&C garages and was owned by someone in the garage for a time as I viewed it there when it was traded there in about 2008/9.

But as much as I'd love it it's not worth very much for all the reasons outlines by others above.
