    I don't know the answer to that one. Someone out there must though. Wasn't chess in Munster split into a couple of associations e.g. the North Munster Chess Union before being unified into the Munster Chess Union years ago? There is an interesting article waiting to be written on the history of chess in Munster. Maybe it can be added as a section on the new MCU site?

    There were indeed separate associations for North and South Munster. The current Munster Chess Union was formed in Autumn 1979. The original office-holders were John Scanlon (Chairman), John Quigley (Secretary), James Phelan (Treasurer) and John P. Quinn (PRO).
