    Hi,

Does anyone know if its possible to remote access an android box for managing files.
Is there a way even to share a folder in an attached HDD over a local wi-fi network ?

Any of the apps I've tried to uise so far only let me share the SD card or the box's own memory

Would something like teamviewer if it's supported on the box work for you ?

    I don't think so.
I need to be able to drop files into a folder on the android box from my phone.

The box is connected by ethernet cable to the wi-fi so some of the apps that require the wi-fi to be on won't work

The box is rooted as well

Easily, run FTPServer and access is remotely with any FTP client such as Filezilla.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lutey.FTPServer&hl=en

More server features such as DLNA and HTTP can be seen here - http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-to-make-an-android-server/

FTP server only works using wi-fi, I'm looking for an app that just uses the wired ethernet connection - don't think it exists really.

I've come up with this, bit of work involved but might work ?
Copy file on Phone to Dropbox using Dropsync then set up Dropsync on Android Box to download from Dropbox to a watched folder. TTorrent watches folder and downloads files.

Its not automated in that I'll have to manually sync Dropsync on the TV box but seems to be the best way to get what I want ?
Dropsync on the TV box won't run automatically because it doesn't meet Autosync criteria

I might use Syncme to copy the files to a raspberry pi running samba so I can share them with other devices.

AndSMB is a tidy little Samba app for Android, if that's any help to you.

How about a NAS setup instead, this way you can connect it to your router and login / remotely to manage the files via HTTP / FTP etc. Then your Android box can be connected via USB or FTP / SMB so any changes made will be done on the NAS directly. Many of these have Dropbox plugins too if you need that extra bit of sync. I recommend the well review Zyxel NSA310 / 320 series. It can be used with a multitude of devices, including Smart TV's (DLNA for your media) and as traditional network shares. Example image below.

A NAS would be the best solution however I thought I was being a great lad buying a Pi with plans to set up deluge, remote access and all the other plugins to make it automated o at the least manageable from my phone. Nice and cheap.
A lot of restarts and clean installs of rasbian later have shown me that I donw't have the skill-set to set this all up on my own and something like a NAS would be a more robust and userfriendly solution.

The NAS is on the to get list now, can't justify the spend at the moment.

Thanks, will that skip my last step of using Syncme to copy the files to my Raspberry Pi ?

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve but I think you are trying to remotely manage your torrent downloads on a PI.

I have a NAS that runs linux and this is the setup I have, i assume you can do the same on the PI.

Install Transmission on the PI and configure it by editing the config file (Help for this can be found online), on your router NAT port 9091 to the PI. Install Remote Transmission on your Android Phone (this will allow you connect remotely to Transmission and add torrents)

I have a script that Transmission calls to move the file once its downloaded to my downloads folder.

There is some additional setup required if you want to set up DNS to have a URL pointing to your PI.

Thats what I wanted to do, but I couldn't get it to set up correctly. Its my first time using linux and using command line interface so thats not helping
