Hi folks I wonder if anybody could help me out or has been in my boat.i previously obtained a level 7 in business studies years ago but it hasn't done me much good and I'm looking to go back to study accounting&finance and I was wondering if I'd get the btea.I've heard that you can get it if you're studying for a higher level which I plan on doing, the accounting&finance is level 8

You can, but it looks like its only for a top-up year on your existing level 7.
    1.10 Progression in education course
......A person holding a level 7 degree can only apply for a level 8 add- on year (honours bachelor degree) in the same discipline and is not eligible for new level 8 degree course in a different discipline.

Ah I see.I really wanted to study something more specific and specialised than general business that would give me an edge.i wonder if there's some sort of way around their definition of 'discipline'. Both courses are technically under the same department

It would be up to DSP/ Intreo really. Maybe make an appointment with them to look at it.
