What microfilter for my ADSL modem ?

    Hi,

    I have two ADSL Modem/Routers:
    1. ZyXEL Prestige 623R-T1 ADSL Modem/Wired Router.
    2. Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless G Router (Model F5D7632uk4).
+ two ADSL microfilters + one ADSL/Phone splitter filter (which came with the ZyXEL)
The ZyXEL is my old modem and while it still works fine I would like to use the Belkin to have wireless. The problem however is that with the Belkin the ADSL connection keeps dropping (like many times a day, its ridiculous).
So today I have noticed that specifically anytime I make a phone call the ADSL light on the Belkin goes out indicating the link has dropped although it will usually (but not always) recover when I hang up the phone, with the ZyXEL the ADSL never drops even when I make a phone call. So based on the ZyXEL behaviour this suggests the splitter is not faulty but for some reason it doesn't seem to work for the Belkin, does anyone know why this is ? While they are both old modems the ZyXEL is significantly older, so I'm wondering if it might implement an older/simpler/more robust version of ADSL and that maybe I need a better splitter to be used with the Belkin? I have checked the Belkin manual but it just says to use an 'ADSL Microfilter'
The splitter I'm using is a 'Excelsus Z-Blocker Model Z-230TJ' which came with the ZyXEL.
So might different ADSL modems need different microfilters ?
Overall I find this behaviour very odd because I always though the filters were LPFs to protect the phone equipment from the HF ADSL signals but based on the behaviour I'm seeing it looks like the problem is that the splitter is not providing sufficient protection for the Belkin from the voice-band phone signals!

    Anyone have any ideas ?

    Thanks,

    Usjes.

It shouldnt matter what filter you use, it just splits at the boundary between voice and dsl.

Only explanation I can think of is maybe the zyxel is adsl1 and the belkin is 2+. With a higher profile that could make the zyxel more stable.

That or the modem chip in the belkin can't handle the change in line voltage. Aka its faulty.
